    Mental retarded children face immense difficulties with maths education which requires abstract thinking due to their intellectual characteristics such as short attention span, lack of short-term memory, difficulty with metacognition, low metastatis capability and etc.
    As the approach with typical teaching methods for mathematics is difficult, mathematical education based on Dienes' theory was conducted in order to learn about the effect this program has on the operation abilities, such as addition and subtraction, has on mental retarded children.
    Three mental retarded children were selected and four preliminary examinations were conducted, ten sessions of mathematics lessons based on Dienes' theory were done, and four post-examinations were conducted, with the results displayed in raw scores.
    As a result of the study, all three children showed good results in tests on addition, and their operation abilities to add were maintained after a certain time period. The same occurred for the capability to subtract, with high test scores and sustained operation abilities.
