This research sought to identify the effect of the group language intervention program using role play on linguistic problem solving skills of children with language delay.
The research targeted three children with language delay who reside in Busan and who are attending first grade of regular elementary school. Group language intervention program using role play was conducted 24 times from February 2011 to April 2011 with three children and the researcher forming a group. To identify the effect of the program, pre-post testing designs were used. Pre-evaluation and post-evaluation were conducted using the Test of Verbal Problem Solving, and the data collected during the evaluation process was analyzed to compare and to contrast the differences found in the linguistic problem solving skills as manifested when children answered cause and reason question, clues and guessing question, solving and inference question.
The results of this research are as follows.
First, when the group language intervention program using role play was conducted, all the children with language delay’s ability to answer cause and reason question improved.
Second, when the group language intervention program using role play was conducted, all the children with language delay’s ability to answer clues and guessing question improved.
Third, when the group language mediation program using role play was conducted, all the children with language delay’s ability to answer solving and inference question improved.
When the results of the research were summarized, it is possible to conclude that the group language intervention program using role play is effective in improving linguistic problem solving skills of children with language delay.
