The present study explored the activities of music teacher learning community for enhancing music teaching professionalism and inquired meaning from the learning community activities
For this purpose, the qualitative case study was chosen in method and done from september of 2010 to march of 2011, about 7 months. Collected data of the study present the process of learning community through proceedings, video recording with such as lesson plan, teaching observation diaries, reflective journals, interviewing materials.
The process of research analysis was as in the following. At first, Researcher was selecting the sentence which was deeply related to subject of research. Next, the selected sentences was classified into the lists of sub categories. Based on the relations between sub categories, higher categories were generated through in-depth coding. For examining the developmental process of the community, node of contents, its frequency, and categorized text were analyzed through Nvivo 9.
The results shows that the main activities of the learning community were analyzing text books, watching lesson video, sharing their diverse experience , exchanging teaching data and skills , freely having discussion how to solve the problem in class as well as collaborative preparing new semester.
As a result, these activities contribute to not only facilitating preparing for class but also identifying factors which attribute to enhancement of teaching professionalism. And they presented blue print of teacher learning community. So this case eventually verified that learning community lead teacher to enhancement of sense of confidence about professionalism. Accordingly, this study had great significance since we could make sure of advantages of learning community.
However, the limiting factor of this case study is that the researching period is a little bit short and community is consist of members those are from same colleges. Thus, in order to an in-depth study, next research need to observe the new community organized team members with various background for long time. furthermore, There should be follow-up research and discussion conducted about teacher learning community for enhancing professionalism after improving weak point of this study such as role of leaders or administrative and financial support.
