20th century can be defined as a period of information and technology. On the other hand, 21st century can be defined as a period of culture and art beyond the information and technology.
Hence, that means it does not only apply to individuals and companies, but it also extends to the nation’s roots of paradigm shift from material and technology to psychological and cultural art. Thus, there are many companies focuson product differentiation and quality improvement.
Due to development and dissemination of advanced technology, the quality and technology between companies are practically the same. Therefore, Companies focus on emotional marketing to attract customers and formulate positive attitude toward the product to allow customer to have purchase intention.
One of strategies of emotional marketing is using famous artist’s work on product design, advertisement and packages. It is called art marketing which has high positive responses from customers due to its creativity and scarcity.
This is due to desire of current customers on leisure and cultural lifestyle as well as consumption patterns considering quality of life.
Customers purchase products not only because they need the products but they also purchase desire of beauty, experience, enjoyment, and other kinds of emotion. Those facts have created art marketing and as long as consumer’s emotional consumption is increased, importance of using art marking will be increased as well.
Thus, there are many studies of art marketing arebeing processed to analyze how it effects on customer’s product perception.
As the result of the study done by Hagtvedt and Partick, they found positive effects on product perception and evaluation can be achieved by using famous artist’s work of art. Hagtvedt and Partick named this phenomenon ‘art infusion’. The western art pieces have been used for this study.
Lately, domestic companies have introduced creative Korean cultural characteristic and received positive responses from inside and outside of the nation. However, although there are increase in positive cases domestically and internationally, the academic study of art infusion is still insufficient.
The western art works, Korean art works and Korean characterized designs were used for this experiment.
The empirical result of the study found how the consumers differentiated product awareness and evaluation on Korean classical, western classical art, Korean modern art, and western modern art.
Furthermore, it also found the suitability of using famous painting images on the product and consumer’s evaluation, rate of preference, rate of interest, purchase intention andawareness of painting,
Customers aged between 20 to 30 are found to be most interested in product with western modern art. However, the rate of interest, and purchase intention of Korean classical art, western classical art, Korean modern art, and western modern art have similar average rating.
Being familiar and fresh painting and also being enjoyable and warm painting are highly rated on awareness and purchase intention.
In the design section, the products with Korean characterized design have high rating on purchase intension awareness. The products with Korean famous painting show high level of cultural value.
The art marketing has a potential to improve dramatically between art and public culture, and between art and the market economy. Hence, continuous interest and the study of art marketing is essential.
