The experimental group participated in the Global Leader Program, and the control group received education according to the standard curriculum. The effort by this study to examine the effect of the global leader program on the improvement of cognition, creativity and leadership is expected to help explore teaching methods that are effective at developing cognition, creativity and leadership in early childhood education institutions.
The subjects in this study were 40 children from two different early childhood education institutions in Dongjak-gu, Seoul. Out of them, 20 children were selected from T early childhood education institution, and the other 20 children’s were selected from J early childhood education institutions. All the children’s were at the Western age of 3. The instruments used in this study were a language and creativity inventory(Lee Kyung-hwa, 2011), a science test (Lee Kyung-hwa, Han Nam-jo, 2010), a mathematics test(Lee Kyung-hwa, 2011) and a creative leadership inventory(Lee Kyung-hwa, Yoo Kyung-hoon, 2010). The experiment was implemented in 80 sessions during an eight-week period from March 28 to May 20, 2011, 10 times a week, approximately 40 minutes each. After the pretest and posttest data were analyzed, the statistical package SPSS WIN 19.0 was employed to make a t-test to look for any possible gaps between the experimental and control groups.
The findings of the study were as follows:
First, the experimental group that took the global leader program scored higher in language, science and mathematics than the control group that took the regular program according to the standard curriculum. The global leader program turned out to have a positive impact on the improvement of the cognitive skills of the children.
Second, the experimental group that participated in the global leader program scored significantly higher in part in creative ability than the control group that participated in the regular program according to the standard curriculum. The global leader program turned out to have a positive impact on the creativity improvement of the children.
Third, the experimental group that participated in the global leader program scored higher in leadership than the control group as well. The global leader program turned out to have a positive impact on the leadership improvement of the children.
The findings of the study ascertained that the global leader program was one of effective programs to be beneficial to the improvement of the cognition, creativity and leadership of the children’s. Therefore children’s will be able to boost their cognition, creativity and leadership to grow into global leaders if the global leader program used in this study is widely utilized in early childhood education.
