수학동화를 활용한 교과독서가 독해력과 문장제 문제해결력에 미치는 영향


본 연구는 수학동화를 활용한 교과독서가 독해력과 수학과 문장제 문제해결력에 미치는 효과를 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 통해 수학동화를 활용한 교과독서의 효과를 검증하고 수학동화를 활용한 수학과 교과독서 수업의 기초 자료를 제공하고자 한다.
설정된 연구 문제는 다음과 같다.

첫째, 수학동화를 활용한 교과독서가 독해력 향상에 효과가 있는가?
둘째, 수학동화를 활용한 교과독서가 문장제 문제해결력 향상에 효과가 있는가?

연구대상은 인천광역시 부평구 소재 ‘ㅂ’초등학교 5학년에 재학 중인 학생으로 실험집단 25명과 통제집단 25명으로 선정하였다. 프로그램 적용 기간은 2010년 9월부터 12월에 걸쳐 사전·사후 검사를 포함하여 11회기를 실시하였으며 매회 40분이 소요되었다.
독해력 사전 · 사후 검사 도구로는 천경록(2006)에 의해 개발된 독서 능력 표준화 검사를 사용하였고, 문장제 문제해결력 사전 · 사후 검사 도구로는 한국교육과정평가원에서 제공하는 5학년 수학과 평가문항 중 문장제 문항을 추출하여 5년 이상의 경력을 가진 초등학교 교사 2명과 협의하여 문항 재구성한 검사지로 그 효과를 검증하였다.

이상의 방법과 절차로 실시한 연구를 통해 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다.

첫째, 수학동화를 활용한 교과독서 프로그램을 적용한 집단은 독해력이 유의미하게 향상되었다.
둘째, 수학동화를 활용한 교과독서 프로그램을 적용한 집단은 수학과 문장제 문제해결력이 유의미하게 향상되었다.
수학과 지도요소에 알맞은 수학동화를 선정하여 교과독서 프로그램을 적용하면 독해력과 문장제 문제해결력 향상에 유의미한 결과를 얻을 수 있을 것이다.

Abstract

The Effect of Content Reading Using Math Fairy Tales on Reading Comprehension and Mathematical Word Problem Solving Ability


The purpose of this study is to verify the effect of reading textbooks using math fairy tales on reading comprehension and word problem solving ability while finding out if there is significant correlation between reading comprehension and word problem solving ability. Through this, we'll verify the effect of reading textbooks using math fairy tales and provide basic materials of mathematics textbook reading lessons using math fairy tales.
The research topics that have been set up are as follows.

First, is reading textbooks using math fairy tales effective in improving reading comprehension?
Second, is reading textbooks using math fairy tales effective in improving word problem solving ability?

The study target was 50 students enrolled in fifth grade of ‘F’ elementary school located at Bupyeong-gu, Incheon. For the period of applying the program, 15 sessions have been performed including pretest and post-test have been performed from September to December, 2010 while 40 minutes was used for each session.
After performing the textbook reading program, the reading ability standardized test developed by Cheon, Kyung Rok (2006) was used as pretest and post-test tool while the effect has been verified using pretest and post-test paper on word problem solving ability by restructuring the sentences after consulting with two elementary school teachers with 5 or more years of experience by extracting the word problems among the fifth grade mathematics evaluation problems provided by Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation.

Through the study performed using the methods and procedures above, the following results have been gained.

First, the group that has applied textbook reading program using math fairy tales has shown improved result in terms of reading comprehension ability. Therefore, the text reading program using math fairy tale has significant effect on improving reading comprehension ability.
Second, the group that has applied textbook reading program using math fairy tales has shown improved result in terms of word problem solving ability. Therefore, the text reading program using math fairy tale has significant effect on improving word problem solving ability.
