다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This thesis presents a new study model of time expression for
foreign language speakers based on a morphological level and a word
level with significant meaning function among Korean language. For
this purpose, the error phenomena through a questionnaire survey have
been analyzed and the meaning function and usage of time expression
through the actual materials have been examined. Study order is set for
each data analysis on the basis of frequency ranks on the ground that
the most used type is the easiest and the most general. Following is a
summary of the contents discussed in each chapter.
Chapter 1 : Study purpose, a subject and a method of this thesis
are put down. The purpose of this thesis is to present a study model
for time expression regarded as one of several difficulties for foreign
language speakers in learning Korean. For this, text books and
utterance data are put to use for analysis with the subject of a
morphological level and a word level. The study method has taken on
the basis of the actual phenomena and materials of Korean language
education in and out of Korea.
Chapter 2 : Observing the Korean language education phenomena in
and out of Korea though the established years and students of each
organization, we can see that Korean language education has made
much progress.
Chapter 3 : Research for a morphological level and a word level has
been examined through previous studies regarding Korean time
expression
Chapter 4 : Error phenomena shown by a questionnaire survey have
been analyzed. The types of errors are as follows.
First, Combination of a verb stem with time morpheme incorrectly
Second, Cooperation of time word with time morpheme incorrectly
Third, Combination of more than 2 time morphemes
Fourth, In case of not knowing spelling
Chapter 5 : Data analysis has been arranged in the order of
frequency with the subject of time morpheme in a morphological level
and a time word in a word level for text and utterance materials.

Chapter 6 : The following is study models of a morphological and a
word level with frequency ranks emphasized on the basis of error and
data analysis. Confer <table 12>, <table 13>, <table 14>, <table 15>
and <table 16>.
First, The study model of a morphological level is constituted both
1st step of simple morphemes with simple meaning function
and 2nd step of compound morphemes of more than 2 meaning
functions.
Second, The study model of a word level in the 1st step presents
{now) and {today} which are the most frequently shown and
have a wide application range of meaning function. 2nd and
3rd steps classify time words with a narrow application range
of meaning function as 3 meaning functions of the past, the
present and the future. Concrete time words are presented in
the 2nd step because it is easier to learn with time range
perceived. Abstract time words are presented in the 3rd step
because time range taken up by time words changes in
accordance with the state of mind and utterance condition of
listener and speaker.
Each meaning function and usage of Korean language time
expression based on a morphological level and a word level has been
observed so far for foreign language speakers. In the process of that,
We can see it is easy to grasp time expression in a sentence written
with concrete time words while it is hardly easy to understand a
sentence written in abstract time words only with time morphemes and
time words because the psychological attitudes of listener and speaker
and utterance situation must be considered. Much deeper research and
analysis must be required because time expressions used in actual
Korean society are more numerous and various.
