The forest activities were planed and applied to promote the various interactions between infants and mountain which was located at nearby the child care center. The influence of them to the infants who have a delay in language development was analyzed.
The research questions on this study are as follows.
1. What kinds of effects do the forest activities influence to the development of receptive vocabulary of the infants who have a delay in language development?
2. What kinds of effects do the forest activities influence to the development of expressive vocabulary of the infants who have a delay in language development?
This study was conducted by the order of the preliminary examination to test the evaluation method, pretest, the experimental treatment, followed by post-test. 3 infants who were delayed in linguistic and cognitive development were selected from the 2-year-old class of the child care center located in capital region.
The test tools to examine the extent of linguistic and cognitive development include the Preschool Language Scale(PLS) made by Kim Young-Tae(1994) and the Portage
developmental test made by Jung Jung-Jin and Ma Ma-Juri. In order to evaluate,
three experimental treatment, 26 target words and 12 related words which are easily
observed and explored, and also used in the fairy tales, children’s poem and children’s song for 2~3 year-old infants were selected. The picture and word cards of them were made, and the programs related with 1 or 2 target words for each experimental treatment were planed. 15 sessions of experimental treatments for infants to get into the woods and explore by themselves were carried out for 5 weeks, 3 times a week, from September 30th to November 2nd in 2010.
The results of this study can be summarized as follows.
First, all infants who participated in the forest activities were significantly developed in receptive vocabulary, which means the forest activities have positive effect on the receptive vocabulary development of the infants who have a delay in language development.
Second, all infants who participated in the forest activities were significantly developed in expressive vocabulary, which means the forest activities have positive effect on the expressive vocabulary development of the infants who have a delay in language development.
