The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of infant's temperament, sleep problem, and mother's neuroticism on parenting stress. For this study, 235 mothers of infants who were 4 to 36-months-old attending to 20 kindergartens located in Daejeon city filled out the questionnaire. As the method of analysis, frequency, percentage, t-test, F-test, and Scheffė's post hoc test, Cronbach's α, factor analysis, Pearson's correlation, regression analysis were practiced to investigate the relationships among variables.
The results of this study were as follows:
First, there was a statistically significant difference in infant's sleep problem according to mother's age and educational level. That is, it appeared that older mothers perceived sleep problem more than younger mothers. And it indicated that mothers with higher educational level reported more sleep problem than mothers with lower educational level.
Second, mothers who reported higher infants' sleep problem and higher neuroticism of themselves perceived more daily parenting stress.
Third, mothers who perceived harsher temperament and more sleep problems of their infants, and perceived themselves to have higher neuroticism reported more stress associated with infants' temperament.
Fourth, mothers who felt more sleep problems with their infants and perceived themselves to have higher neuroticism reported higher stress related to their children.
