The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of mother's parental efficacy and parenting behavior on attachment between mother and children. For this study, mothers of young children who were 3 to 5-years-old attending to 5 kindergartens located in Cheongju city, Jincheon-gun filled out the questionnaire. The finally collected 247 questionnaires were used to analyze by frequency, percentage, factor analysis, t-test, Pearson's correlation, and hierarchical regression analysis using SPSS 12.0 program.
The results of this study were as follows:
First, the working mothers, older mothers, and mothers with higher educational level showed higher pride of parental role and parental efficacy, more parenting behavior of warmth and encouragement, and higher level of attachment in positive communication and feeling less alienated than their counterparts.
Second, mothers with more confidence in parenting and more warm behavior reported better communication with her children, while mothers with more denial and neglect behavior showed more difficulty in communication with their children.
Third, mothers with more confidence in parenting and more warm behavior showed better the feeling of trust with their children.
Fourth, mothers felt more alienated in the relationship with their children, when they had difficulty in parenting, and showed excessive limit set, overprotective parenting, more denial and neglect in parenting, and less warm parenting.
