In order to establish more efficient sex education which is already performed in the high school, the study focused to examine the reality of the sex education so that how gender, academic affiliation, sex education in a household, the economic standard, and differences of academic records affect the students' sexual recognition and sexual attitude. In addition, the study worked on the differences in the recognition and the demands for sex education of each students, which is reflected the students' sexual consciousness and sexual attitude.
In pursuit of achieving the research purpose, the study has asked the four questions as follows.
First, how much do the high school students know about sex and what is the sexual attitude? What is the reality of the sex education?
Second, Is the sexual knowledge of the students influenced by the background variable?
Third, How does the background variable effect the students' attitude toward sex?
Fourth, is there any differences in the demands of the students for the sex education according to the background variable?
Before the study was conducted, random sampling based on gender and academic affiliation was carried out to four schools which are located in Daegu. After a survey to 700 students in total, 572 of the surveys excluding those which were not taken back or answered were used for statistical analysis.
The followings are the results of the research.
First, it turned out that schools do not properly extend any sex education regarding the mass media.
Second, the sex education which is performed by each of the school subjects from time to time appeared to be a great influence on the sexual knowledge of the students.
Third, there found a interrelation between the sexual knowledge and the sexual attitude.
Fourth, compared to other groups, a group with a relatively higher level of the sexual knowledge turned out to demand more professional sex education.
Now the study provides a few advises as follows based on the results from the research.
First, it needs to extend the sex education to the whole educational curriculum. Teachers should be put into the professional training of the sex education so that the students will be able to form proper sexual values.
Second, even though the study failed to suggest any concrete measures to deal with the mass media, a follow-up study on how to establish a systematic sex education should be continuously conducted.
Third, it is necessary for the follow-up studies to cover all the various aspects from the background variable to the physiological area. Add to this, since the social culture is getting more diverse, constant interest is certainly requested.
Fourth, the results that the study came up with are not sufficient enough to apply to all of the high school students for the study has limited the sampling while it randomly selected high schools in Daegu. For this reason, any following studies in the future is recommended to cover a wider range of subjects for more reliable results.
