Resource depletion, environmental pollution and change in eco-system have occurred in the earth due to mass production and consumption since the industrial revolution. This environmental disaster is threatening the world as well as the quality of individual life. Each country in the world establishes regulations to control environmental pollution and competes each other to research environmental preservation.
Every country in the world is actively taking actions to research the production of environmentally friendly recycling energy, production, consumption, disposal and recycling of product as well as to save energy. These efforts become the reaction to develop and survive from the position of companies as well as countries, and gradually individual lives are involved in it.
Since designers are helpful to prevent resource depletion and environmental pollution, changes in the paradigm of design for production is demanded to reduce pollution and maintain sustainable eco-system. This is a result that the role of designer has been faithful to represent the profits of company rather than environment, and pursue profitability through shape differentiation and establishes sculpture indiscreetly to deliver individual emotion. In the future, the products, companies and countries which can pass over the satisfaction to comply with environmentally friendly regulations and lead the standard will survive in the global market. In this point, the designer will be required as a role of expert in the environmentally friendly area, and the extent of responsibility will be expanded to the sculpture, profitability and environmental effect. The purpose of this study is to establish the evaluation system of 'eco-minimal design' in the aspect of sculpture sustainability by connecting environmentally friendly elements derived from the sculpture principle of minimalism to the role of designers for environmentally friendly production and the study on methodology of eco-design achieved in the aspect of ecology, economics and sociology.
Many methodologies studied so far mainly focused on evaluation system of products. Therefore, it was difficult to apply it to the practical system of the design development since it includes unreasonable part where the designers should verify other academic area when they evaluate the environment and sculpture. The principle of sculpture which can find, suggest and evaluate environmentally friendly elements in the aspect of sculpture rather than evaluation on other academic area will be needed in the system to implement design.
In this point, 'Simplicity of shape,' 'Purity of materials' and 'Modulization' shown on the minimalism are useful concept in the sustainability of sclupture as well as in the aspect of ecology, economics and sociology. From the view of the case evaluation on the guideline prepared by applying environmentally friendly factors of the minimalism, the products designed by environmentally friendly method show the characteristics of form of minimalism, and the minimal shape of products have environmentally friendly attributes. From these characteristics, the significance of evaluation system of 'Eco- minimal design' is on the environmentally friendly product design and realization of sculpture sustainability based on the guideline through the connection between the principle of eco-design and environmental friendly elements of the minimalism.
