The goal of this study is to identify leisure sportswear consumers' psychological characteristics to improve their satisfaction on leisure sportswear functionality and, therefore, to increase repurchasing by analyzing the relationships among leisure sports motivation, self-efficacy, sport commitment, functionality satisfaction and repurchase intention.
Specifically, first, this paper finds out the factors of leisure sports motivation, self-efficacy, sport commitment, functionality satisfaction of leisure sportswear, and repurchase intension. Second, this paper analyzes the effect of sports participation motivation and self-efficacy on sport commitment. Third, the effect of sport commitment on functionality satisfaction on leisure sportswear and repurchase and the effect of functional satisfaction of leisure sportswear on repurchase decisions.
To accomplish the goals of this study I review previous literature and conduct empirical research. For the empirical analysis we use a survey that was carried out from 2010, March 15 to April 15 by the Internet survey firm Easy survey corp. (www.embrain.com). It tested 493 men and women over the age of 20, residing in a metropolitan area. Frequency analysis, reliability analysis, factor analysis, multiple regression analysis, t-test, and ANOVA are conducted with SPSS Ver. 17.0.
The results of this study can be summarized as follows.
First, people enjoy climbing most often as a leisure sport. And the most highly valued factor on leisure sportswear purchase turns out to be the functionality of leisure sportswear. Rather than any other channels, the Internet is the main source of information about the functionality of the leisure sportswear. Specialty shops, outlets, department stores, and internet shopping mall are subsequently highly ranked in terms of a purchase channel. This result implies that consumers tend to utilize the Internet only for getting information on sportswear functionality while using other distribution channels for purchase. Therefore, leisure sportswear companies have to take into account the leisure sportswear functionality which is the most significant factor on consumers' purchase decision, and efficiently use the Internet as a marketing tool to improve their marketing performance.
Second, leisure sports motivation is classified into five factors, outward show, sociability, psychological happiness, exercise skills, and physical fitness / health. Similarly, a leisure sportswear consumer's self-efficacy is categorized into three factors, self-regulation- efficacy, self-confidence, and task difficulty preference. Sport commitment is divided into two factors, behavior and cognitive commitments. Finally, functionality satisfaction is classified with functionalities for physiological happiness and for exercise, and repurchase intension has one factor, itself.
Third, we examine how participation motivation in leisure sports affects exercise commitment. Sociability, self-efficacy, confidence play a critical role in explaining behavior commitment. Also, outward show, psychological happiness, and exercise skills affect cognitive commitment.
Fourth, this paper studies how self-efficacy effects the commitments in sports. Self-regulation-efficacy, self-confidence, and task difficulty preference in behavior commitment can be explained by self-efficacy. In addition to that, self-regulation-efficacy, and task difficulty preference in cognitive commitment are significantly affected by self-efficacy. In other words, not only personal value and self-confidence influences the commitment for leisure sports, but also self-regulation to achieve goals in leisure sports, such as the cognitive processes of self-examination and self-judgment and the synchronization process of self-reaction, has a positive impact on the commitment in leisure sports.
Fifth, the commitments in leisure sports have statistically significant effects on satisfaction of functional sportswear and intention to repurchase. The two behavioral and cognitive commitments have noticeable influences on psychological happiness and satisfaction for the exercise functionality. This means that when people feel more enjoyment and happiness during exercise, the satisfaction on functionality of sportswear gets higher and higher. Also, psychological happiness and satisfaction from the functionality for exercise are significant factors on the repurchase intention. This means that the customers' satisfaction about the functionality of sportswear is directly connected to their repurchase intentions. Therefore, for steady growth, the leisure sportswear industry should focus on product development to fit the needs of the customers who want the satisfaction from exercise functionality and psychological happiness.
Sixth, satisfaction on functionality of leisure sportswear has a significant effect on repurchase intentions. It means that a consumer's satisfaction on the quality of a functional sportswear product plays an important role for his or her repurchase behavior.
In conclusion, participation motivation for leisure sports and self-efficacy affect sport commitment and involvement, which are closely related to satisfaction on functional sportswear and repurchase intention. Also, how much satisfaction with the functional sportswear has an effect on repurchase intention.
