Heated arguments between existential rationalism and cognitive relativism in modern times have greatly influenced on the development of the West's traditional liberal arts and science, whereas post-modern ideology has formed new discourses and shared theories of various fields. The mysterious secrets of our body as a private subject are being gradually revealed in the midst of scientific development, and the philosophical and ethical aspects of our body are being renewed with the flow of change. Some social scientists assert that the function of our body will steadily become weakened in an automated, technological society, and that industrialization will make cities bigger and inhumane. However, such pessimistic views stem from a customary attitude of defining science as having continuously changing fluid characteristics and of specifying our body as a simple physical subject that performs its biological functions. As R. Darwin asserted, our body does not exist as a passive subject, being selected by an environment. The advent of new media will require our body to accommodate another space and to evolve into an active sensory organism. As a result, our body will evolve into 'Hyper-body' that systemizes itself in oder to satisfy the needs of a genuine life in that space.
Thus, this study was conducted to investigate a relational characteristics between a trans-structured hyper-body and a palpable space. Like the fundamental composition elements of the process that creative artistic behaviors produce basic compositional elements from the initial Avant-Garde Movement; like drastic formational responses of an accepting art were integrated with more than two academic fields; like a combinational media design for forming an interdigitation in the states of time vs. space, reality vs. virtuality, and body vs. mind; like various experiments that expand between the trace of an expression, which uses our body as the topic of a conversation, and the development of technology, our body's the existential thinking system and experiential cognitive system will be re-interpreted as a new phenomenal system through a creative process of de-construction and re-construction: This will be clarified by itself in the process of inferencing an experiential original form and when classifying sensory and perceptual facts.
Our body will always be a sourceful topic of arguments when approaching a creative space. A palpable space also starts form a question about our body, but our body no longer stands in the center of a regulatory system and an engineering module, and it is not a model of a personified interpretation. A new hypothesis will state the reversibility of time and a free movable space, and it will include the expansion of an experiential place and conceptual thinking. De-constructived hyper-body and a palpable space have an relationship of interdigitation as dramatized sensory subjects, and they will appear as a self-configuration generation model with the characteristics of syn-aesthetic immersion. A new epistemological theory and post-phenomenalism of the thinking system in the coming era are forming a relationship with the general rules of space and the relational structure of objects. In addition, both the possibility of materialization and hypothetical actuality are understood through an intuitive thinking system from a post-structural perspective. The main flow of this study is making an analogical interpretation by focusing on the framework of a logical structure.
The scope and method of this study are as follows:
In Chapter 2, the logical thinking system of our body will be investigated as a base for generating a new space through the renewed understanding of our body with time.
On the time line of history, which is classified into pre-modern, modern, and post-modern, the main subject of recognition is investigated in terms of the phenomena of time, which moves from the God to humans, from mind to body, from reasoning to emotion, and from perception to palpation. To help the understanding of re-recognized space and de-constructive body, the formative and phenomenal system of beauty, as well as the structure of meaningful generation by a language sign analysis, will be approached from the perspectives of philosophy, art and media.
In Chapter 3, changing from a reasoning-centered teleological space to a palpable sensible space is confirmed to be related to the de-constructived characteristics of Hyper-body, along with an expansionary perception and active palpation behaviors.
The advent of new media requires the expansion of our body's receptive capabilities and senses. Forming a syn-aesthetic relationship between tactile sensation and other senses will be suggested as the possibility of new 'Palpation space' which is perceived and expressed by active and tactile movements.
In Chapter 4, to investigate a de-constructive relationship between Hyper-body and Palpation space, major relational words will be derived in terms of meaning from the perspective of 'de-constructivism' by focusing on the conceptual elements of philosophy, pure art, and experimental spatial works of art.
The meaningful stems of compound words are used as a matrix on the analytical coordinates consisting of the x_structural axis, y_sensory axis, z_spatial axis. The subjects of cases will be materialized step by step after classifying them into the properties of contact, operation, and syn-aesthetics.
In Chapter 5, after clarifying the relational characteristics between de-constructive Hyper body and Palpation space, a definition of a new verified palpable space, as well as methods of generating and materializing the concept of a creative space will be suggested by basing on the inductive inference that is proven above.
The new interest of de-constructivist regarding our body stems from the awareness of crisis that an approach to our body is cutoff by the death of a perceiving subject. Such crisis awareness can be understood from the perspectives of Niche's theory of biological body; A. Artaud's Theater of Cruelty, which attempted to remove the reproduction authority of supernatural philosophy, languages, and words in an accidental, impromptu way; disintegration and destructive phenomena of body that can be seen in Kafka's literary works and the Avant-Garde Art Movement; and an aesthetic phenomena that lead to death in such states as lunacy and schizophrenia. Common phenomena observed from de-constructivist' arguments about body are rejecting the modern dualism and rationalism; and presupposing an unconscious world, madness, and a language structure system of constructivism and de-constructivism. a body as an object of operation and suppression of power from a microscopic aspect (Foucault), a body as a machine of desire (Deleuze, Gatari), a body as simulacre that does not have any flesh (Baudrillard)--they all represent other characteristics of our unrealistic and disunited body that is induced when a boundary between truth and non-truth becomes ambiguous, as well as when the difference between a voting signifiant and an intention signifie is abolished.
The conclusions of this study can be made as follows:
First, our body is a language itself, and can be interpreted as a structure. Within a semiotic tetragon, our body demonstrates itself as a disintegrated appearance in such ways as a subject vs. others, and a non-subject vs. non-others. It becomes de-construction in the relational characteristics of vergence and advergence. De-construction has the 'de-composition', 'inter-textuality', and 'hyper-represent' characteristics. The process of breaking-away and re-unification forms a new meaningful relationship by using a compound structure of classified prefixes (de-, re-, inter-, im-, sur-, non-). It can be explained as complex and pluralistic value using re-constructived locutionary spatial words.
Second, the advent of new media and the phenomenon of de-construction are re-construction as Hyper-body focusing on tactile sensation along with the meaningful disintegration of body, and pursues Palpation space. Hyper-body, which is discussed in post-humanism, is being juxtaposed in a new relationship between Palpation space and a subject as a body's return phenomenon in digital aesthetics or cybernetics, but it opens an interactive possibility within transcendental idealism and playful sensation. Paradoxically, the disappearance of body and the risky phenomena of re-appearance, which are discussed negatively from a trans-historical perspective, can be a new starting point in the discussion of Palpation space.
Third, de-constructived Palpation space shows the characteristics of a multi-central and changeable relationship in the process of ‘self-organization’; an occurring, revitalizing relationship by ‘self-resonance’; and a resonance relationship and extreme-facticity by both syn-aesthetic immersion and a complete receptive system of ‘self-transpersonal'.
Our body, which lives in a modern society, is accustomed to responding to the speed of media which appear incessantly. The media has the power of canon that can even change the paradigm of life beyond basic functions that are needed for humans and the world to communicate, so our body is afraid of failing to respond to the speed. In a given environment, our body has to learn and sense new things, and should be re-structuralized in order to unite the world and our body. As such, in the midst of heated arguments, the topic about ‘body’ can be a trite discussion that can never be complete, but discussions about body and reproduction methods cannot be a simple matter. Even in the future, body will always appear as a new subject and will remain as an important discussion topic. A relationship between evolved Hyper-body and Palpation space will have an interactive position between reality and a virtual world, and this will be in the center of a new blended academic field. Even though Palpation space may look to be not related to practical functionality and value, but it is expected to expand the future of spatial designs which respect humans' sensory behaviors and emotional space.
