In twenty first century, the general service industry has a decisive effect on the rate of growth and profitability of a superior business. Therefore, many companies try to provide the best customer service to increase profitability. Because service to a customer is delivered through interactions with the employee, the employee's attitude has a strong influence on the customer's satisfaction level.
This is same in Korea's domestic department store industry. Since the department stores' sales associates spends numerous hours directly in contact with the customers, the service provided by them is perceived as the company's service level through the customers' eye. The department store sales associates are influenced by the stress received from work and emotional labor.
Therefore, this study is on the relationship between the department store sales associates’ job stress and emotional labor and the relationship between the superior's leadership role.
For the optimum result of this research, the sample model has been set and it has been demonstrated the relations with the assumption ratios provided by previous researches. For the survey, we used 250 survey questions.
Based on the evidence of analysis, we found emotional labor has a serious effect on job stress. This result shows that the department store sales associates that receive emotional labor has decreased efficiency working levels that coincides to other service related industries. It also shows that the superior's leadership role has an effect on employee's efficiency level.
In conclusion, we need to improve leadership training programs for superiors that manage employees that have direct contact with customers to decrease emotional labor stress. Furthermore, continuous studies and researches need to be provided.
