This study's subject included the state-level standard nursery course, the 2007 state-level revised kindergarten course, and the 2007 state-level elementary school education course. In order to explore connectivity among communication education and linguistic life education in early childhood courses and Korean language education for the first grade of elementary schools, comparative analyses took place in division of educational purposes, contents, methods, and evaluation.
The results can be summarized as below.
First, while it is hard to directly compare purposes of communication and linguistic life in early childhood education courses and those of Korean language education for the first grade, there is a similarity in that the purposes of communication, linguistic life, and Korean language aimed at listening, speaking, reading, and writing, which are basic skills necessary for daily linguistic life.
The purposes of communication and linguistic life are almost similar. The purpose of Korean language education for the first grade becomes wider in scope and higher in level than the purpose of early childhood education courses. Hence, in a broad sense, the purpose of communication and linguistic life and that of Korean language for the first grade can be said to be connected.
Second, while communication and linguistic life in early childhood education courses are similarly connected to each other in terms of subordinate contents and contents by level, communication is provided in more detail so that it can be easily applied not only to children aged 3~5 but also to infants aged 0~2. As for Korean language education for the first grade, the contents and scope of activities are more extended than communication and linguistic life, which tells that the contents dealt in communication and linguistic life are naturally connected to the Korean language education system for the first grade.
Third, while there are various differences between educational methods of early childhood education courses and Korean language education for the first grade, they commonly use learner-oriented educational courses by level, various activities involving direct participation, and teaching and learning methods based on teachers' divergent questions, which tells that educational methods of communication and linguistic life in early childhood education courses and Korean language education for the first grade are significantly connected.
Fourth, in terms of evaluation, ‘early childhood education courses’ focus on evaluation of changes in holistic growth and development, which is different from 'Korean language' education for the first grade evaluating with an emphasis on the effects of learning connected in the future.
In light of absolute evaluation conducted in descriptive ways according to purposes and contents by area, contents exploring the changes in holistic growth and development, and presentation that evaluation is aimed at better educational courses and improvement of learning based on qualitative evaluation, it can be detected that evaluation of 'Korean language' for primary education tries to establish connectivity with that of ‘early childhood education courses’.
