風水形局論과 地名의 相關性 硏究 : 京畿道 利川市 地域을 中心으로 = (A) study on connection between HyeungGug theory of Feng-Shui and the place name : a case of Incheon city region, Gyeonggi-do

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 풍수(風水)형국론(形局論)이 지명 형성에 어떤 영향을 미쳤는지를 경기도 이천시 지역을 중심으로 규명 하였다. 연구 방법으로서는 먼저 지명에 관련된 문헌을 조사했고, 해당 지역을 직접 답사하여 지역의 지형상태, 주거의 형태, 생활풍습 등을 통해 지명의 형성과 변형과정을 살펴보았다.
풍수 형국론은 산천 지형지세를 크게 다섯 가지 사람, 동물, 물질, 식물, 문자 등으로 나누고, 여기에서 다시 세분화하여 형국의 유형별로 나누게 된다. 경기도 이천시 지역 곳곳에서는 풍수이론 중에서도 특히 땅의 생김새에 빗대어 풍수적 이치를 설명하는 형국론은 널리 적용되었다. 이러한 배경에는 산천의 특이한 모양을 형국화하고 형국의 지명화를 통해 인간사의 길응(吉應)을 도모하려는 풍수적 기대심리가 있었던 것으로 해석할 수 있다.
가장 많은 형국명(形局名)은 용(龍)으로서, 모두 17곳의 마을에서 사용하고 있었고, 이 중에서 용머리(龍頭)라는 지명이 백사면 상룡리(栢沙面上龍里) 외 3곳으로 가장 많고, 신둔면 용면리(新屯面 龍眠里)의 마을 이름은 존귀함과 편안함을 겸비한 것이고, 좌청룡(左靑龍)이라는 풍수(風水) 용어(用語)에서 비롯된 청룡뿌리라는 지명도 부발읍 가좌리(夫鉢邑 加佐里) 외 3곳에서 사용하고 있다.
소와 관련된 지명도 부발읍 송온리(夫鉢邑 松溫里)의 소눈골, 쇠일·소일·소꼴더미·연당 등을 사용하고 있는 백사면 내촌리(栢沙面 內村里)는 모두 소의 풍요로움을 상징하는 부류의 마을이다.
마장면 해월리(麻長面 蟹越里) 기너미, 부발읍 신하리(新河里) 복해(伏蟹) 지명(地名)은 게(蟹)가 다리로 먹을 것을 긁어모으니 재물이 불어나는 것을 상징하고, 사람형 중에서 마장면 이평리 (泥坪里)삼승이 마을은 스님(僧)형으로서 목탁봉이라는 지명까지 있으므로 불력(佛力)으로 항상 마을이 편안해지기를 바라는 마음이 있었을 것으로 보인다. 부발읍 신하3리(新河里) 매지울(梅谷) 마을은 매화는 많은 씨를 퍼뜨리므로 다산과 풍요를 상징하였다. 부발읍 수정리(水井里)가 산구형(産狗形)으로 개가 엎드려있는 형국이다. 개는 새끼를 잘 낳는 동물이고 많이 번식 시킨다. 한 배에 여러 마리를 낳기 때문에 풍요와 다산(多産)의 상징이다. 특히 개 젖통의 위치는 가장 좋은 혈처(穴處)이다.
이 밖에 지세(地勢)가 반달처럼 생겨서 반월(半月)이라 지어진 지명도 설성면 상봉리(雪星面 上峯里) 외 2곳, 부발읍 가산리(柯山里)의 월양골(月陽谷) 등이 있다. 연구 결과 풍수 형국론이 지명에 영향을 미친 것은 입증이 되었다고 할 수 있다.
따라서 향후 개발연대에 소멸되었던 지명의 회복뿐만 아니라 새로운 지명형성, 통합 등에 있어서 해당지역의 풍수형국에 따라 지명의 명명도 가능할 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study tries to find out how Feng-shui Hyeung Gug Theory effects on formation place name centering around Icheon City, Gyeonggi-do. At the first, all the literature on the place names were researched, and as one of a strategies of study, making fields investigation was directly done like landforms, dwelling patterns and lifestyles.
Feng-shui Hyeung Gug Theory divides the topography aspect of the mountains and streams to largely five types like a person, an animal, a plant, a letter, a matter, and at this point, break down again into several categories of Hyeung Gug type. In several places in Icheon City, Gyeonggi-do, Hyeung Gug theory, which explains the principle of Feng-shui with land shape among the theory of Feng-shui, was widely applied. Against this backdrop, the unique shapes of mountains and steams make Hyeung Gug, and through the designation of Hyeung Gug, there will be expectation of Feng-shui that the auspicious effect of a site brings good response.
The most used Hyeung Gug name is Dragon(龍), which is used in total 17 villages, and from among these, Dragon's head(龍머리) is the highest name of the place as it is used in three more places besides BaekSaMyeon SangYongRi(栢沙面 上龍里). The name of ShinDunMyeon YongMyeonRi(新屯面 龍眠里) combines nobility and comfort. In addition, the place name ChungYongBuRi(靑龍뿌리) from a term of Feng-shui's Left ChungYong(左靑龍) is used in BuBalEup GaJhaRi(夫鉢邑 加佐里) and three more places.
The place name related with cow, SoNunGol(夫鉢邑 松溫里 소눈골) in BuBalEup SongOnRi and SoiIl·SoIl(쇠일·소일), SoGolDumi, YonDang etc. in BaekSaMyeon NaeChonRi(栢沙面 內村里) are the towns meaning of the symbol of cow's abundance.
The place name of MaJangMyeon HaeWalRi (麻長面 蟹越里) Ginumi(기너미) and BuBalEup SinHaRi(夫鉢邑 新河里) Bok Hae(伏蟹) symbolizes of growing assets because crab rakes up something to eat. As Buddhist monk Hyeung Gug(스님, 僧 形局) of the people shape, the town, called Samseungyi(三僧, three monks) in MaJangMyeon IpyungRi(麻長面 泥坪里), has the name of land, the Moktakbong(木鐸峰,wooden gong), so people are seemed to believe that the town is to be relieved by the power of Buddha. Japanese apricot flower(梅花) spreads lots of seeds so that it is an emblem of fecundity and abundance. As for Dog Hyeung Gug(개(狗)形局), BuBalEup-SuJungRi(夫鉢邑 水井里) is Sangu Type(産狗形). It means dog lays down on the ground. Dogs breed very well and a lot. Dog is symbolized fecundity and abundance because they have a litter of several pups. Especially the location of dog's breast is the best a very good place.(穴處)
Furthermore, SeolSungMyeon SangBongRi(雪星面 上峯里), etc. two more places and BuBalEup GaSanRi WolYangGol(夫鉢邑 柯山里 月陽골) are named from Ban Wol(半月), which means geographical features look like half moon. According to the result of study, it can be proved that Feng-shui Hyeung Gug Theory effects on the place names.
Therefore, it can be expected that not only it restores the place names vanished in the development era, but it is also possible to name the places according to the area's Feng-shui Hyeung Gug in the formation new place name and merger from now on.
