A Study on the Desirable Corporate Culture to Improve the Competitiveness through the More Liberal Self-Control in the Service Industry
This study investigate the desirable corporate culture to improve competitiveness for service providing companies. To cope with the rapidly changing industry-wide challenges, firms in the service industry have to make special efforts. The growth rate of productivity of domestic service industry has been lower than that of manufacturing industry for the last decade. However, customers' desire for the new service has been emerging and new firms equipped with competitive service have entered in the industry. Also, globalization, digitalization, new service trends urge service firms to do something for the new world.
The fundamental competitive power for a service company comes from the hands of an individual employee. Also, employees are at the front line of contacting customers in the market. They are the first people to catch the desire and demand of the customers. Thus, a firm should acknowledge the importance of each and every employee and find ways to improve the work conditions and to support them. Considering the traditional heritage of our nation, patriarchial culture system was acceptable. However, under the current circumstances, systematic cultural revolution should be adopted. The new firm culture should be rendering more employee autonomy, motivating employee self-development, making the organization more flexible to changing atmosphere. For employees, personal efforts to make themselves more competitive in every respect including language and web-based work, serving customers, working with other people, etc.
