As the contemporary culture in recent years has been rapidly changed, our family dietary habits are transformed. Especially, most adolescents fail to have their balanced meals owing to their busy life cycles and their working parents, who don’t prepare regular foods or meals. And, they are too accustomed to ‘fast food’ culture to eat nutrients indispensable for their growth. If they have a habit of being fussy eaters who have nothing but food just right for their own food tastes, at home, they are apt to become attacked by ‘obesity’ and any other ‘adult diseases’.
In this regard, the purpose of this research thesis is to provide basic data for true education to help adolescents perceive how valuable it is to have balanced foods based on agricultural experiences and activities, and the educational meaning of dietary habits integral for adolescents. Schools should commit to letting adolescents have sound knowledge and awareness of meals and form good meal habits by introducing educational lessons on meal life cycles, at once. As to the changed awareness of ‘agricultural’ experiences and activities, this thesis conducted a survey of schools, where allowed adolescents to do such experiences and activities. The analytic study results revealed most adolescents have showed no great attention to the ongoing ‘rote-biased’ dietary education. Instead, field experience activity-centered education received more preference among adolescents than rote-based education. Based on these facts, a wide range of experiences and activities-oriented programs have, thus, to be made. Also, these analytic results indicated that directly experiencing adolescents have got their awareness of how valuable it is to feel important of food itself and form their desirable dietary habits.
Among food materials which adolescents experienced through agricultural activities, ‘Vegetables’ accounted for the highest rate. Grains and fruits accounted for the second and third highest rates, in turn. Frequently found in everyday life food menus, the above-stated food materials are easy to get and recipe. As for ‘food materials’ that most adolescents preferred, ‘boy’ and ‘girl’ students have had the greatest preference on ‘live stokes’ and ‘fruits’, respectively. If adolescents experience their activities of food materials that they want to do and develop their own good dietary habits, they would seem to try to have better dietary habits, and, pay greater attention to nutrition and health, than the past.
‘Agricultural experience activities’ not just serve as an essential factor for dietary education but also contributes to providing for adolescents to have their right awareness of dietary habit. Of course, it is important to conduct ‘textbook and theory-based’ food education. But, it is of more importance to motivate adolescents to think of the changing dietary life cycles, for themselves, through their own field activities and form their own right dietary habits through sound self-diagnosis.
