무용극<도미부인>에 내재된 사상적 원류와 대중적 춤 이미지의 연관성에 관한 연구

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 우리의 창작무용극<도미부인>이 1984년의 초연 이래 지금까지 끊임없는 각색과 첨삭(添削)을 거듭하며 200 여회 가까이 재공연 되어옴으로써 얼마든지 세계적으로도 인정받을 수 있는 명작화의 가능성이 있다는 전제로부터 출발하였다. 주된 연구의 초점은, 무용극<도미부인>에 내재되어 있는 사상적 원류가 무엇인가 하는 것과 시대적 흐름에 따른 춤 언어의 변화, 그리고 현대적 가치를 재정립함과 동시에 이를 바탕으로 향후 한국창작무용극의 미래적 전망을 도출하는데 그 목적이 있다. 연구진행 과정은 모두 3단계에 걸쳐 이루어졌는데 우선 1단계로서 문헌연구를 통한 설화의 본질과 도미설화의 실체, 타 장르에서의 예술적 활용여부에 대하여 고찰하였다. 2단계로는 LA올림픽 문화행사 참가와 제35회 국립무용단 정기공연을 목적으로 이루어진 1984년도 초연작품의 실체와 1988년의 제52회 국립무용단 정기 공연 작, 1992년의 제61회 국립무용단 정기 공연 작(原안무자인 송 범의 국립무용단장 퇴임식 기념 공연)을 함께 비교 분석하였다. 3단계로는 무용극<도미부인>의 예술적 가치인식을 재정립함과 동시에 한국창작무용극의 미래적 전망을 위한 몇 가지 필요성을 제기하고자 하였다. 그리고 이상의 연구과정을 통하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻을 수 있었다.
1. 무용극<도미부인>의 예술적 창의성
가. 오랜 세월을 거치면서 민중의 정서를 가장 잘 대변할 수 있는 설화를 근거로 창작함으로써 건강한 무용사적 의의를 지니고 있다.
나. 충효열(忠孝烈)이라는 전통사상의 원류를 확보함으로써 일반인들에게 쉽게 다가갈 수 있는 대중성을 확보하고 있다.
다. 타 장르와의 활용 성이 용이하여 무한한 창의성을 내포하고 있다.
2. 무용극<도미부인>의 새로운 춤 언어의 재해석
가. 현실적 묘사에 가까운 문학적 대본을 인물의 감정과 예술적 감동전달을 위한 무용극에 맞게 재구성, 연출하였다.
나. 한국의 민속놀이와 전통무용을 신 무용과 접목시키는 동시에 발레 극 형식을 도입하여 유연한 기본적인 구조의 틀을 유지하고 있다. 다. 1984년의 초연 이후 끊임없이 관객에게 쉽고 빠르게 다가갈 수 있도록 다음과 같은 연구와 노력을 게을리 하지 않았다.
1) 보다 정확한 작품의도의 전달을 위하여 다양한 춤의 첨삭을 시도하고 있다.
2) 간결한 무대와 춤 기교의 발전을 통하여 점차 안정된 구도를 확립하여 왔다.
3) 궁중무용, 민속무용, 의식무용, 창작무용, 신 무용 등의 다양한 전통 춤을 총체적으로 극화시켜 다양한 극적 표현을 이끌어 내고 있다.
4) 시대의 흐름에 따라 적절한 무대효과의 변용을 추구하고 있다.
5) 철저한 고증에 따른 복식의 수용을 통하여 올바른 역사적, 교육적 소명에 전력하고 있다.
3. 무용극<도미부인>의 예술적 가치 인식과 미래적 전망
가. 작품의 내용을 보다 빠르고 정확하게 전달하기 위하여 시대적 인식이나 현장의 상황을 적절하게 활용함으로써 뛰어난 대중성을 확보하고 있다.
나. 등장인물의 계층별 독창성은 물론이요 전통 춤의 원형이 그대로 녹아 있어 우리나라를 대표하는 세계적 명품으로서의 충분한 가치를 지니고 있다.
다. 우리의 민족 정서적 사상을 작품 속에 잘 용해시켜 가장 적절하고 다양한 춤 언어로서 드러내고 있다.
이상의 연구 결과를 바탕으로 우리 무용예술의 영역을 보다 확장시키고 세계화하기 위해서는 무엇보다 한국무용의 가치에 대한 인식변화의 노력이 시급히 제고되어야 할 것이다. 뿐만 아니라 우리 무용에 대한 다양하고 끊임없는 재해석과 동시에 국가적 문화경쟁력 제고 차원에서의 폭넓은 이론적 접목을 시도한다면 우리의 무용도 얼마든지 세계적으로 명품(名品)화 될 수 있으리라 기대한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study was focused on the possibility that the Korean creative dance drama <Madame Domi> might globally be recognized as it has thus far repeatedly been performed two hundred times with endless adaptation and correction since its premiere in 1984. The major purpose of this study was to investigate what the ideological origin inherent in the dance drama <Madame Domi> was, reestablish the change in the dance language and its contemporary value with the stream of the times and elicit the future prospect of Korean creative dance drama on this basis. This study was conducted at three stages. At the first stage, this study attempted to investigate the essence of the fable through the descriptive study, the substance of the fable Domi and the presence or absence of its artistic use in other genres. At the second stage, it attempted to make a comparative analysis of the followings: the substance of the work performed as the premiere in 1984 with the aim of participation in the cultural events for the LA Olympics and the 35th periodical performance by the National Dance Company; the work for the 52 periodical performance of the National Dance Company in 1988; and the work for the 61 periodical performance of the National Dance Company in 1992(performance in celebration of the retirement ceremony of the original choreographer Song Beom). At the third stage, it attempted to reestablish the artistic value awareness of the dance drama <Madame Domi> and present several needs for the future prospect of Korean creative dance drama. And this study could obtain the following findings through the above process of study:
1. The artistic creativity of the dance drama <Madame Domi> a. It has a wholesome dance-history significance by creating it on the basis of the fable able to represent the sentiment of the populace for a long time.
b. It has the popular appeal of making it easily accessible to the general public by securing the root of traditional thought of loyalty, filial piety and virtue.
c. It contains limitless creativity because of its easy applicability to other genres.
2. Reinterpretation of a new dance language of the dance drama<Madame Domi>
a. It reconstituted and presented the literary script close to realistic description to fit the dance drama for delivering the emotions and artistic impression of the character.
b. It maintains the framework of the flexible basic structure by combining the folk play and traditional dance of Korea with new dance and introducing a form of ballet drama as well. 3. It has made the following endless efforts to be able to make it easily and quickly accessible to the audience since its premiere in 1984.
a. It has attempted the correction of diverse dances to deliver the more accurate intention of the work.
b. It has gradually established a stable composition through the development of concise stage and dance techniques. c. It has drawn diverse dramatic expressions by dramatizing diverse traditional dances such as court dance, folk dance, ceremonial dance, creative dance, new dance and the like in totality.
d. It has pursued the transformation of the proper stage effect according to the stream of the times.
e. It has made efforts for correct historical and educational calling through the accommodation of costume according to thorough historical research.
4. The artistic value awareness and future prospect of the dance drama <Madame Domi>
a. It has excellent popular appeal by make proper use of the consciousness of the times and the situation of the field to deliver the contents of the work in a more quick and accurate manner.
b. It has the value enough as the world-class masterpiece representative of Korea as both the hierarchical originality of the characters and the prototype of traditional dance are melted in it. c. It fuses the emotional thought of Korean people into the work well and presents it with the most proper and diverse dance languages.
Based on the above findings, it is urgent to make efforts to change the awareness of the value of Korean dance to extend and globalize the domain of Korean dance art. In addition, It is expected that Korean dance will become a world-class masterpiece if an attempt is made at the broad theoretical combination at the level of enhancing national cultural competitiveness as well as a diverse and endless reinterpretation of Korean dance.
