This research investigates how life - histories and personalities before enlistment can affect Korean soldiers adapting in the military service.
To begin with, we examined 22 factors of life - histories and six factors of personalities to see which factors from each group can most affect the five sub-criterions of adjustment in the military service, as an only group. Then, we tried to see how those of factors can interact to each other to make different influences on the five sub - criterions of adjustment in the military service.
In behalf of this investigation, we gave The New Humanity Test to 420 Korean soldiers who have served about four to eight months of their military service and arranged the results. In addition, we collected every soldier's Personal Report Card which shows one's life history and habits in order to compare the different results coming from the different life - histories.
As a result :
Firstly, among the 22 factors of life - histories, twelve - enlisted month, personality type, physical condition, habits, speciality, alcoholic capacity, crime record, licences, social career, housing situation, average income, and academic career - affected the most to the five sub - criterions of adjustment in the military service. Average income and academic career affected the most among the twelve.
Secondly, among the six personality factors, consideration, sincerity, leadership, toughness showed high level of influence on the adjustment, while inquisitive-ness and creativity showed low level of influence on the adjustment.
Thirdly, there were about 70 possible influences from the interaction between the sample life - histories and personalities. This result shows the significance of complementary cooperation between one's life - history and personality for one's adjustment in the military service. Lastly, the meaning of this result, suggestions and limits of this research were discussed on the last pages.
