효율적 정보 전달을 위한 유형별 앱 아이콘 디자인 분석 연구 : 애플의 앱 스토어를 중심으로

Smart phone has extricated people’s life from designated internet hot spots in this fast evolving society of information, data, multimedia, and social networking.
Smart phone has integrated personal cell phones and PDA(Personal Digital Assistant) by adding data transferring capabilities to the ordinary cell phones.
This integration have also help to develop millions of different application, which user have the full control of installing and to use.
Launching of Apple iphone in 2009 have started phenomenon in smart phone industry. Also, this phenomenon revitalized development of app store, which distributes applications for the smart phones. Purpose of this research will be focused on guideline for the app icons to deliver the correct and useful data to the users with cognitive factor and emotional factor. In order to obtain this purpose, following progress and method have been used.
First, Look into basic understanding of the UI(User Interface), which is the most important concept in app icon, and inquire knowledge about the GUI (Graphic User Interface).
Second, Collect data about the use of the smart phones to understand the essential purpose for the app icons and the importance of its design.
Third, Figure out basic fundamental in designing the app icon by gathering data from the current smart phone app user and analyze it.
Forth, Survey current smart phone user to find out the expecting cognitive and emotional factors and come up with fundamental design guidelines according to different character types of smart phone users.
Through this research and the survey, conclusion was clear that designing of app icon must consider different characteristic of users.
There are lots of factors to determine this, but common preferences amongst the smart phone users were the neatness and the sleekness. Therefore, to best design the app icons, which will transfer the information and the data is to consider the latest fad while keeping it simplified.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

정보화 사회, 멀티미디어 사회로의 변화 속에서 등장한 스마트 폰 은 사람들을 인터넷 사용 장소의 제약으로부터 해방시켜줌으로써 라이프스타일에 큰 변화를 가져오고 있다. 스마트 폰 은 휴대폰과 개인 휴대단말기(Personal Digital Assistant; PDA)의 장점을 결합한 것으로 기존 휴대폰의 기능에 인터넷 접속 등의 데이터 통신 기능을 추가함으로써 단순한 휴대폰의 기능 외에 십여만 여종의 다양한 어플리케이션의 설치로 사용자가 개인에게 알맞은 인터페이스를 구현할 수 있는데 큰 장점이 있다. 특히 2009년 애플사의 아이 폰 출시로 국내 스마트 폰 의 시장이 급속도로 확산되기 시작했다고 해도 과언이 아니다. 이와 더불어 스마트 폰 의 핵심 요소인 어플리케이션을 제공하는 앱 스토어 역시 활성화되기 시작했다.
이렇듯 수만 가지의 다양한 어플리케이션이 개발되고 있는 현 시점에서 앱 아이콘을 통한 올바르고 정확한 정보 전달을 하기 위해 사용자들이 앱 아이콘에 기대하는 인지적•감성적 요소를 연구하고 앱 아이콘 디자인 가이드라인을 제시하는데 본 연구의 목적이 있다. 이러한 목적을 위해 다음과 같은 방법으로 진행되었다.
첫째, 아이콘의 상위 개념인 사용자 인터페이스(User Interface; UI)와 그래픽 사용자 인터페이스(Graphic User Interface; GUI)에 대해 알아보고 아이콘을 이해하는 계기를 마련한다.
둘째, 아이콘의 일반적 개념에 대해 살펴보고 스마트 폰 요소로서의 앱 아이콘과 필요성을 알아봄으로써 앱 아이콘 디자인의 중요성을 인지하도록 한다.
셋째, 앱 아이콘 디자인 개발 시 고려해야 할 요소와 원칙을 정리하고 아이콘에 대한 사용자들의 해석방법을 살펴본다.
넷째, 유형별 앱 아이콘의 표본을 통하여 사용자의 인지적•감성적 기대 요소를 설문 조사를 통하여 알아보고 앱 아이콘 디자인 시 고려해야 할 요소들을 유형별로 도출한다.
위의 연구 설문을 통한 결과를 분석해본 결과 유형별로 사용자들이 아이콘에 기대하는 요소가 다르게 나타났으며 이에 따라 앱 아이콘 디자인 시 유형별로 고려해야 할 요소와 배제해야 할 요소를 제시할 수 있었다. 공통적으로는 단순하고 절제된 디자인의 깔끔한 아이콘 선호현상이 두드러지게 나타났다. 따라서 효율적 정보전달을 위한 앱 아이콘 디자인을 위해서는 유형별 속성에 적합한 이미지의 표현과 함께 단순화 시키는 작업이 가장 중요하다고 할 수 있다.
