한국어 교재의 공손성 분석 : 요청 발화를 중심으로

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study paid attention to the politeness in the pragmatic competence of Korean language learners and analyzed Korean language textbooks for the reflection of Korean politeness. This paper contained the situation variable analysis, the politeness strategy and the politeness expression of requests by textbook and level. Before these analyses, the politeness strategy and the politeness expression which were showed in the precedent request studies or the latest TV drama series were analyzed and extracted. These were for preparing ‘the politeness strategies and the politeness expressions of Korean requests’ which was one of the analysis criterions.
The composition of this paper was as in the following.
In Chapter I, the need and the aim of this research were written and the precedent studies which were connected to the aim of these researches were considered. The precedent study which was connected to the precedent request studies, the request and the politeness were considered. That is why I would examine the politeness used in the request situation. And the precedent studies for the textbook analysis which were the main issue of this paper were examined. The research subjects were brought from the precedent study consideration and were the politeness of request which was showed on the textbook, namely the situation variable, the politeness strategy and the politeness expression.
In Chapter II, there was organized request and politeness as the theoretical background. The concept and the strategy of requests were considered because the range of the politeness study was limited to request in this study. And the concept of request became the selection criterion when the request was extracted from TV drama series and textbooks. The strategies of request became references when the strategy patterns of request were set up. The concept, the precedent consideration and the strategy of politeness were organized for setting up the politeness strategy patterns of request. Besides, the strategy patterns of request in English were also examined and be effective references for setting up the politeness strategy pattern of requests.
Chapter III has the method of study. The procedures of this study were explained in consecutive order. There were also described of the textbook analysis object, the process for preparing an analysis criterion and the analysis method. The objects of a textbook analysis were 1333 requests which were showed in the regular course textbook of 5 major Korean educational institutions. The textbook analysis criteria were the 3 situation variables, the politeness strategies and the politeness expressions of request. The 3 situation variables of request were the formality (whether formal or informal), the social distance (whether distant or intimate) and the social dimension of relative power (whether S<H or S=H or S>H). The politeness strategies of requests were 17 strategies which consisted 16 politeness strategies gotten through of meta-analyses of 9 precedent request studies and analysis of 20 TV drama series and a strategy of high frequency presented in Korean language textbook.
In Chapter IV, the consequences of textbook analysis were presented and discussed. First of all, the total analysis consequence of the whole Korean language textbooks was discussed and then the analysis consequences by textbook and by level were presented. The total analysis consequences also showed that requests leaned too much towards on an informal situation and a distant relation. The politeness strategies showed in requests were concentrated on several major strategies and also presented. Only 3 strategies, namely the minimizing the imposition, the using direct imperative and the using indirect imperative, of 17 politeness strategies of Korean requests which were set up in this paper, were presented intensively. And even if all the strategies which had 5 percent or more portions were gathered, these were concentrated only in 7 strategies and formed over 82 percent. This consequence was discussed and compared to the consequences of meta-analysis and the TV drama series analysis. In the analysis consequences by textbook, some textbook seemed similar dimensions with the whole analysis consequence but others seemed different dimensions. And there were discovered that all textbook had their method and whether or not that was the situation variables presentation and besides these had an effect on the analysis consequences. The politeness strategy distributions showed in each textbook were similar to the whole distribution. And the analysis consequences of Korean textbooks by level showed that the requests were covered 2nd level and 3rd level intensively and were concentrated in the informal situation on the beginning level and in the formal situation on the advanced level. In the informal situation, there were showed more the distant situations in the beginning level and more the intimate situations in the advanced level. Therefore the situation variables showed in textbooks were presented at an unbalanced ratio by level. The politeness strategy distributions were different from the whole analysis consequences because of different dimensions by level. After discussing the textbook analyses and getting the consequences, the improvement of textbook for Korean politeness expression education was proposed based on the discussion and the consequence.
Lastly, in Chapter V, the consequences of this paper were summarized and there was described an implication, a meaning and a suggestion of this paper. The consequence of this paper showed that the textbook was redeemed and improved in order to develop the pragmatic competence of Korean language learners. This paper had two significant meanings. One was this paper grouped the politeness strategy and the politeness expressions used in Korean requests and prepared basic information of the politeness expression education. The other was this paper checked the Korean educational field through the text analyses and emphasized the necessities of the politeness expression education.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본고는 한국어 학습자들의 화용적 능력 중 ‘공손(politeness)’에 주목하고 한국어의 공손성이 교재에 잘 반영되어있는지 살펴보기 위해 교재 분석을 실시한 연구이다. 교재에 나타난 요청 발화의 상황 변인과 공손 전략 및 공손 표현을 교재별, 급별로 분석하였고, 이에 앞서 분석 기준의 하나인 ‘한국어 요청의 공손 전략 및 공손 표현’을 마련하기 위해 요청 화행 선행연구들과 최신 드라마들에 나타난 한국어 요청의 공손 전략 및 공손 표현들을 분석하고 추출하였다.
본고의 구성은 다음과 같다. Ⅰ장에서는 연구의 필요성과 목적을 기술하고 연구의 목적에 맞는 관련 선행연구들을 고찰하였다. 본고는 요청 상황에 쓰이는 공손을 살펴보고자 하였으므로 요청 화행 선행연구와 요청 화행과 공손을 연결하여 살펴본 선행연구들을 고찰하였다. 또한 본고의 주요 작업인 교재 분석에 대한 선행연구들도 살펴보았다. 선행연구 고찰을 통해, 한국어 교재들에 나타난 요청 발화의 공손성, 즉 요청의 상황 변인과 요청의 공손 전략 및 공손 표현을 분석하고자 하는 연구문제를 도출하였다.
Ⅱ장은 이론적 배경으로서, 요청과 공손에 대해 정리하였다. 본고에서 공손의 연구 범위를 요청으로 한정지었으므로 요청의 개념과 요청의 전략들에 대해 고찰하였다. 요청의 개념은 드라마와 교재에서 요청 발화를 추출할 때 선정 기준이 되었고, 요청의 전략들은 요청의 공손 전략 유형을 정립하는 데 참고가 되었다. 한국어 요청의 공손 전략 유형을 정립하기 위해 공손의 개념과 공손에 대한 그간의 고찰, 공손 전략에 대해 정리하였다. 영어 요청의 공손 전략 유형도 함께 살펴본 후 한국어 요청의 공손 전략 유형 정립에 실제적인 참고를 하였다.
Ⅲ장에서는 연구방법에 대해 기술하였다. 본 연구가 이루어진 절차에 대해 순차적으로 설명하고 교재 분석의 대상과 분석 기준, 분석 기준 마련 과정 및 분석 방법에 대해 기술하였다. 교재 분석의 대상은 다섯 개 주요 한국어 교육 기관의 정규과정 주교재 전권에 나타난 요청 발화 1333개이며, 교재 분석의 기준은 세 가지 요청의 상황 변인과 요청의 공손 전략 및 공손 표현이다. 세 가지 상황 변인은 격식성(격식/비격식), 친밀도(소원/친밀), 힘의 차이(S<H, S=H, S>H)이고, 요청의 공손 전략은 9편의 요청 화행 선행연구들의 메타분석과 20편의 드라마 분석을 통해 정립한 16개 공손 전략과 한국어 교재에 고빈도로 제시된 1개 전략을 합한 17개 전략이다.
Ⅳ장에서는 교재 분석의 결과를 제시하고 그에 대한 논의를 진행하였다. 먼저 분석 대상 한국어 교재 전체의 종합 분석 결과를 논한 후 교재별 분석과 급별 분석의 결과를 각각 제시하였다. 전체 분석 결과, 한국어 교재에서 요청 발화는 비격식 상황에 편중되어 제시되는 경향이 있고 비격식 상황 중에서도 소원한 관계에 편중되어 있다. 요청 발화에 나타난 공손 전략도 몇 가지 주요 전략에 집중되어 제시되고 있다. 본고에서 정립한 한국어 요청의 17개 공손 전략 중 단 3개 전략인 ‘부담 줄이기’, ‘직접 명령하기’, ‘간접 명령하기’를 집중적으로 제시하고 있으며, 5% 이상 제시된 전략들을 모두 모아도 7개 전략으로 전체의 82% 이상을 차지하고 있다. 한국어 교재 전체의 공손 전략 분포는 메타분석 결과와 드라마 분석 결과와 비교하며 논의하였다. 교재별 분석 결과에서는 전체 분석 결과와 비슷한 양상을 보이는 교재도 있었고 다른 양상을 보이는 교재도 있었다. 교재마다 상황 변인 제시의 유무 및 그 방법이 달라 이것이 분석 결과에 영향을 미친다는 것을 발견하였다. 교재별 요청의 공손 전략 분포는 전체의 분포와 크게 다르지 않았다. 한국어 교재의 급별 분석 결과, 요청은 주로 2급과 3급에서 집중적으로 다루어지며 초급에서는 비격식 상황, 고급에서는 격식 상황으로 편중 현상이 심하였다. 또한 비격식 상황 중에서는 초급 교재에는 소원한 관계가 고급 교재에는 친밀한 관계가 더 많은 분포를 보인다. 교재에 제시된 요청의 상황 변인들은 급별로 고르거나 일정하지 않고 불균형한 비율로 제시되고 있다고 할 수 있다. 공손 전략의 분포는 급마다 다른 양상을 보여 전체 분석 결과와도 상이한 분포를 나타냈다. 교재 분석 결과와 논의를 모두 마친 뒤 이를 토대로 한국어 공손 표현 교육을 위한 교재의 개선점을 제안하였다.
마지막으로 Ⅴ장에서는 본 연구의 결과를 요약하고 연구의 시사점과 의의, 제한점과 제안점을 기술하였다. 본고의 연구 결과는 한국어 학습자의 화용적 능력을 키우기 위해서 교재가 보완 및 개선될 필요가 있음을 시사하고 있다. 본고는 한국어 요청 발화에 사용되는 공손 전략 및 공손 표현을 유형화하여 공손 표현 교육의 기초 자료를 마련했다는 점과 교재 분석을 통해 현장을 점검하고 공손 표현 교육의 필요성을 확고히 했다는 점에서 의의를 갖는다고 할 수 있다.
