레드 카펫 패션 스타일 : 2000년대를 중심으로

This study aims to systematically analyze red carpet style which is the fashion exhibition of stars and reflects the fashion trends of that time. For this, reference study and case study were conducted. First, formation and meaning of red carpet and the historic flow of red carpet style were studied in reference. After that, red carpet fashion style cases symbolizing international prestige were researched by subdividing the cases. This study conducted comparative analysis focusing on two representative award ceremony styles after the 2000s by subdividing into formative elements of silhouette, color, fabric, detail, accessory, fashion image, and etc.
As a moving fashion spot, red carpet fashion style can see the whole silhouette of star's apparel to partial details. Firstly for silhouette, the mermaid silhouette is occupying the highest percentage in the Academy awards. Compared to this, fit silhouette showed almost the same percentage as the mermaid silhouette in the Grammy Awards. Secondly for color, black color occupied the highest percentage and high-bright beige and peach color was next. Compared to the Academy Awards, various colors are evenly shown in similar percentage in the Grammy Awards. Thirdly in fabric, silky material was shown most often. This seems to result from the highest percentage of dresses in award ceremony apparel items. Meanwhile in the Grammy Awards, silky and metallic material similarly appear often. There were more various types of fabric in the Grammy Awards. Fourth in detail, frill and ruffle ornaments were shown most often both in the Academy and Grammy Awards. Especially in the Grammy Awards, beads ornaments were being used most often. Also considering that metallic material was appearing more often compared to the Academy Awards, it is thought that more fancy and glorious style is preferred in the Grammy Awards fashion. Fifth in accessory, accessories giving performance effect of unique style were shown often in the Grammy Awards compared to the Academy awards in which graceful and elegant accessories were shown often. Sixth for fashion image, elegant image of goddess style was shown most often as the fashion image of the Academy Awards. There were many romantic images in the Grammy Awards, but overall several images where shown in similar percentages and more experimental, lascivious styles were variously appearing.
As various mass media has developed, red carpet fashion style of award ceremonies is receiving more interest that it has become an issue by the media voluntarily selecting best dressers. On this, stars attending award ceremonies are showing more classy red carpet fashion style every year as a stage of image public relation. There has been several pictorials and fashion news about red carpet style until now, but there is a big lack of precedent studies. Especially, this study has meaning at the fact that there almost hasn't been any research handling movie award ceremony apparel or album award ceremony apparel. It is expected for more analytic follow-up studies on red carpet style to be progressed.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 시상식에 참여하는 스타들의 패션 전시장이며 당대의 패션 트렌드를 반영하는 레드 카펫 스타일을 체계적으로 분석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 문헌 연구와 사례 연구를 진행하였는데, 먼저 레드 카펫의 형성과 의미 그리고 레드 카펫 스타일의 역사적 흐름에 대해 문헌적으로 고찰한 후, 국제적 권위를 상징하는 대표적인 영화상인 아카데미 시상식과 음반업계 최고 권위의 상인 그래미 시상식의 레드 카펫 패션 스타일 사례들을 세분화하여 연구하였다. 본 연구에서는 2000년대 이후 대표적인 두 시상식 스타일을 중심으로 실루엣, 색채, 재질감, 디테일, 액세서리, 패션 이미지 등의 조형요소로 세분화하여 비교 분석하였다.
레드 카펫의 패션 스타일은 움직이는 패션지로서, 스타들의 의상 전체의 실루엣에서부터 부분적인 디테일까지 볼 수 있다. 첫 번째 실루엣에 있어서 아카데미 시상식에서는 머메이드 실루엣이 가장 많은 비중을 차지하고 있다. 이에 비하여 그래미 시상식에서는 머메이트 실루엣과 더불어 피트 실루엣이 거의 비슷한 비율로 많이 나타났다. 두 번째로 색채에 있어서는 블랙 컬러가 가장 많은 비중을 차지하고 있었으며, 다음으로는 고명도의 베이지 컬러와 피치 컬러가 많이 나타나고 있었다. 아카데미 시상식에 비해 그래미 시상식에서는 다양한 컬러가 골고루 비슷한 비율로 나타나고 있다. 세 번째로 재질감에 있어서는 실키한 소재가 가장 많이 나타나고 있는데, 이는 시상식 의상 조형요소에 있어 드레스가 많은 비중을 차지하고 있는 데서 기인하는 것으로 보인다. 한편 그래미 시상식에 있어서는 실키한 소재와 메탈릭한 소재가 유사하게 많이 등장하였는데, 실루엣, 색채의 경우와 마찬가지로 재질감에 있어 그래미 시상식에서는 보다 다양하게 여러 종류의 재질감이 비슷한 비율로 골고루 나타나고 있었다. 네 번째 디테일에 있어서 아카데미와 그래미 시상식 모두에서 프릴과 러플 장식이 가장 많이 나타나고 있었다. 특히 그래미 시상식에서는 비즈 장식이 많이 사용되고 있었는데, 아카데미 시상식에 비해 메탈릭 소재가 더욱 등장하고 있었다는 점과 함께 고려해볼 때, 보다 화려하고 빛나는 스타일이 그래미 시상식 패션으로 선호된 것으로 사료된다. 다섯 번째 액세서리에 있어서 아카데미 시상식에서는 우아하고 엘레강스한 스타일의 액세서리가 많이 나타난 것에 비해 그래미 시상식에서는 독특하고 특이한 스타일의 퍼포먼스 효과를 주는 액세서리가 많이 나타났다. 여섯 번째 패션 이미지에서는 여신 스타일의 엘레강스 이미지가 아카데미 시상식의 패션 이미지로 가장 많이 나타났고, 그래미 시상식에서는 로맨틱한 이미지가 많았지만 전체적으로 여러 이미지가 비슷한 비율로 나타났는데, 보다 실험적이고 선정적인 스타일들이 다양하게 등장하고 있었다.
다양한 대중매체가 발달함에 따라 시상식의 레드 카펫 패션 스타일은 대중들의 자발적인 베스트 드레서 선정으로 이슈가 될 정도로 보다 많은 관심을 받고 있다. 이에 매년 시상식에 참가하는 스타들도 이미지의 홍보의 장으로서 매년 더욱 세련된 레드 카펫 패션 스타일을 선보이고 있다. 이제까지 레드 카펫 스타일에 대한 패션 기사나 화보는 많이 있어 왔지만 이에 대한 선행 연구들은 많이 부족한 경향이다. 특히 영화 시상식 의상 뿐 아니라 음반 시상식 의상까지 다룬 연구는 거의 없었다는 점에 본 연구의 의의를 둘 수 있으며, 앞으로 레드 카펫 스타일에 대한 보다 분석적인 후속연구들이 진행되기를 기대한다.
