The purpose of this research is to help males between the ages of 40-59 who may undergo and overcome issues regarding mid-life crisis and inter-relationships. In order to carry out the purpose of this research, the second chapter based on the previous research delves into several scholars' theories of lifecycles and mid-life crisis and seeks to approach and handle the various terms regarding mid-life crisis.
In the third and fourth chapters through the observations of this research with specific theories on the characteristics of the social and cultural environment of Korea, we suggested research methods to approach the problem of mid-life crisis among middle-aged males. By considering various factors and testing hypotheses, we sought solutions that would help males who undergo psychological issues and a sense of mid-life crisis in their lives.
In the fifth and sixth chapters, in order to explain the male mid-life crisis, it was suggested to look at the many crisis' factors and influences and how those influences come about by organizing steps to test each hypothesis. The results show that the hypothesis of being involved in Christian activities would lower a psychological sense of crisis. Therefore, this shows that religious activities tend to have a positive effect on various factors regarding mid-life crisis.
In addition, regarding a person's sense of their own health, a more positive mindset of one's health results in actual better health. On the contrary, as body functions worsen and illnesses increase, a sense of psychological crisis tends to increase. The greater one's socioeconomic status is, the lower this crisis occurrs, and a higher educational background also helps to get rid of the crisis, but we were able to find an even more effective result.
Also, good family relationships are directly correlated with crisis issues. We were able to conclude that a healthy spousal relationship especially gives a sense of confidence and psychological stability and lower a sense of crisis. As mentioned above, involvement in Christian activities, health conditions, socioeconomic status, family relationships, and social factors have a strong correlation with mid-life crises for males.
First, from a religious and spiritual perspective, we can see a direct relationship with psychological crisis as well. However, involvement with religious and spiritual matters have even more influences through family relationships and social factors. Spiritual growth also shows various benefits in personal psychological stability along with family relationships and community. In reality, the difference between people with genuine faith and those who do not believe is that true believers are not concerned with the status of their health. However, overcoming any problems that occurred only brought about more benefits.
Especially because middle-aged males being involved with religious activities has a positive effect on family relationships, Western individualistic spirituality and personal spirituality changes into a spiritual community as well. This is a unique characteristic that is in religion in Korea.
Therefore, it is believed that the whole family living as Christians is not only involved with personal spirituality but also with living out in society along with the family through all kinds of life's matters and developing a problem-solving spirituality.
For practical steps to decrease psychological crisis among middle-aged men, through developed church or religious groups, instead of developing on one's own, we can conclude that one must grow through family and social community, which can be very helpful.
Second, whether middle-aged men merely feel or actually experience different health conditions, there appears to be a direct psychological influence. In other words, when experiencing worsening body functions or weight loss through illness when health weakens, men lose the will to live. Therefore, the condition of feeling middle-age health can either greatly increase or deepen psychological crisis. These results regarding middle-aged men who undergo a mid-life crisis show us that more than just one's psychology, family, society, and spiritual domain, we must also regularly monitor our health.
Third, socioeconomic status has a direct relationship along with social factors that also have an indirect influence on psychological crisis. As socioeconomic status decreases and psychological crisis increases, the country must first prepare an application for a more appropriate social welfare system.
Fourth, the research shows that family relationships also have a great influence in this area. When comparing these results with many other factors, the family proves to be the most powerful influence. As these results are connected with middle-aged men's psychological crisis, through family recovery first, we can reduce the causes of the crisis. Entering mid-age life especially, family relationships are inter-woven with the difficulties of married life, menopause, and even hormonal changes. In addition, since one's children's adolescence, and independence, and period for marriage are deeply connected, these changes can cause more experiences of crisis.
Fifth, in Christian life factors, especially through the differences of spiritual maturity between spouses, a dis harmony can become a problem for the entire family. Because of this, many middle-aged men face a mid-life crisis. As we absolutely need various social factors, more than anything, the family being in one religion, having one faith, leads to more stable conversation and discussion, and we can discover more forms of conflict resolution as well.
In conclusion, although the middle-aged people are a society-centered generation, at the same time, the future generations must be taught and lead out, which is why it is the time for the middle-aged to be a bridge for these generations. As a result, the middle-aged people are called the waiting around syndro
