현대 패션에 나타난 Fold 기법의 조형성 연구 : 소피아 비조비티의 폴딩을 중심으로 = A study about the plasticity of the Fold technique shown in modern fashion: focusing on the comparison with Sophia Vyzoviti's 'Folding Architecture'

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 21세기 시대를 구축하는 철학과 과학, 예술, 건축 등의 분야들이 많은 변화를 거듭하면서 인간들에게 무한한 가능성을 제시해주고 있다는 시점을 바탕으로 한다. 특히 그 이전의 어느 시대보다 더 급격한 변화로 혁신적이며 새로운 장르를 만들어 내었고, 조형적으로 많은 부분을 공유하고 있다는 것을 알 수 있는 건축과 패션에 주목하였다.
그 중 90년대부터 새로운 건축현상들이 전개되면서 최근 대두되고 있는 유기론적 사고를 반영한 폴드 개념을 건축에 도입하여 새롭게 등장한 폴딩 건축에 초점을 맞추고, 폴드를 현대적으로 해석하여 건축적 언어로 도입한 소피아 비조비티의 종이 접기 기법을 사례연구로 제안한다. 즉 인간과 밀접한 관계가 있는 건축 분야와 패션을 접목시켜 건축에서 나타나는 폴드 기법의 조형적 특성과 현대 패션디자이너들에 의해 나타나는 폴드 기법의 조형적 특성을 디자인 사례로 비교 분석함으로써 패션디자이너들의 독창성과 실험적인 창의성을 고찰하고, 입체적인 조형성과 표현효과의 새로운 방법론적 패러다임을 제시하고자 한다.
이러한 관점에서 소피아 비조비티의 폴드 기법 중 현대 패션에 가장 많이 보여 지고 있는 접기, 구기기, 주름내기, 자르기, 꼬기, 엮기, 감싸기의 7가지 기법들을 통해 그가 대응하는 방식에 있어 폴드 개념으로 표현된 조형적 특성을 이해하고, 그것들을 패션에서 반영하는 과정과 개념, 구축방법을 살펴보고, 폴드 기법의 그 조형적 특성이 현대패션에 나타난 사례비교분석을 통하여 앞으로의 현대 패션 발전 가능성을 살펴 볼 수 있는 기회를 마련하는데 목적이 있다.
본 연구는 이러한 목적을 가지고 다음의 방법으로 진행되었다. 폴딩 건축의 등장배경과 개념을 고찰하고, 이 중에서도 요점이 될 수 있는 특징을 정리한 뒤, 소피아 비조비티의 폴드 기법 중 7가지 기법을 통한 건축가의 작품을 분석하고, 현대 패션에 있어서 이것이 어떤 양상으로 적용되어 나타나고 있는지 비교하여 디자인에서 나타나는 조형적인 특성을 분석하는 방법을 취하였다.
우선, 다양한 건축 움직임의 폴딩 건축을 중심으로 폴드 개념이 등장하게 된 배경을 정리해 본다. 그리고 건축과 패션, 이 두 분야의 변화는 내부에서만 일어나는 것이 아니라 서로 다르게 보이고 위계를 갖는 것처럼 보일지라도 그것은 겉으로 드러난 것에 불과하고 본질은 보이지 않는 곳에서 연결되어 상호작용하고 있다는 폴드의 개념에서처럼, 건축과 패션도 연결되어 변화한다는 관련성을 두고 폴딩 건축에 직접적인 영향을 미치는 이론 및 사고에 대해 논의 한다.
이를 바탕으로 본격적으로 형태나 공간구성에 있어서 유기적으로 연결된 성질을 함축하는 폴드 개념을 도입한 소피아 비조비티의 7가지 기법의 특성을 기술하여, 그 특성이 나타나는 대표적인 건축가들의 건축물을 분석하여 고찰함으로써 건축이 가지는 조형적 특성을 밝히고, 그 기법별 조형적 특성이 패션 디자이너들에 의해 나타난 디자인에서 보여 지는 특징을 분석하고 고찰하여, 소피아 비조비티의 폴드 기법이 나타난 조형적 특성의 유사성을 증명한다.
앞서 살펴 본 바와 같이 건축과 패션에서의 유사성은 기법별로 변화의 가능성과 구성방식의 전환, 시각적인 연속성, 공간적 확장, 유동적인 연속성, 가시적 결합 그리고 유동적인 곡선성의 조형적 특성으로 추출되며 다양성, 곡선성, 연속성, 유동성의 조형성으로 분류하여 밝힌다.
이상의 연구를 통해 소피아 비조비티 건축 이념의 폴드 기법은 현재까지의 폴드 개념이 주는 다양한 방향성에 좀 더 확고한 건축적 실체를 획득하여, 구축적인 특징들을 구현하고 디자인의 모티브로 전달되어 새로운 한 세대의 디자이너들에게 획기적인 건축의 실제에서 폴드라는 담론이 갖는 효과를 보여 준다는 것을 알 수 있다. 그리고 건축은 좀 더 유동적으로 변화하면서 패션이 가지는 동적인 미를 표현하고자 하고, 패션은 좀 더 구조적으로 변화하면서 건축이 가지는 형태적 조형미를 표현하고자 하는 특징으로 각 분야에서 다양하게 나타나고 있지만 그 중 패션만이 가지는 특성 중 직물의 활용은 변화할 수 있는 유연한 특성을 지니고 있기 때문에 실루엣 변화의 다양성, 실험적 소재로서의 볼륨감과 기하학적인 형태미, 구성적인 패턴의 변화로서의 다양한 텍스츄어의 표현으로 패션에서의 폴드 기법 활용은 더욱 다양한 표현의 방법으로의 조형적 발전성을 알 수 있다.
새로운 한 세대의 건축가들의 이러한 담론 위에 현대 패션에서 나타난 건축적 기법의 활용으로 패션에서의 조형 예술의 방향성을 제시하며, 이러한 건축적 기법들의 무한한 가능성으로 현대 패션의 새로운 디자인 개발에 창의적인 모티브로 활용 할 수 있기를 기대해 본다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study is based on the viewpoint that humans are provided with unlimited possibilities through philosophy, science, art, architecture, etc which make up the 21st Century period. Especially, it created a new and innovative genre compared to any other past periods, and focused on architecture and fashion which shares many aspects in terms of shape.
Among those, new architectural developments have opened since the 90s and has applied Fold concept reflecting the recently rising organic thoughts with a focus on the newly introduced folding architecture and by interpreting the fold technique in a modern way it suggests Sophia Vyzoviti's paper folding technique, which has become an architectural language, as a case study. Thus, by grafting the field of architecture and fashion which has a close relationship with humans, it suggests a new methodological paradigm of solid shapes and expressive effects and studies fashion designers' originality and experimental creativity through comparing fold technique's shape characteristic of architecture and fold technique's shape characteristic of fashion designers as a case study.
From this point of view, there is a purpose in creating an opportunity for looking into the modern fashion's possibility to develop through comparing a case study from the fold techniques's shape characteristic shown in modern fashion and understanding the shape characteristics expressed in terms of the fold concept through the 7 techniques of Sophia Vyzoviti including folding, creasing, wrinkling, cutting, twisting, weaving and wrapping.
With these objectives, this study has been carried out by the following methods. A study on the background and concept of folding architecture, a summary of essential points, an analysis of an architect's work through the 7 techniques of Sophia Vyzoviti has been carried out, hence, an analysis of the shape characteristic through comparing the facet it's applied as in terms of modern fashion has been done.
Above all, with a focus on the diverse architectural movements of folding architecture, the background of the folding concept have been summarized. Also, it discusses about the thought and theory which has a direct influence on folding architecture with a relation that architecture and fashion are connected and change like the fold concept which says that nature is connected and interacting in an unseen place, even though the change in the field of architecture and fashion doesn't just occur internally and may look as if they have a deceptive plan of some kind.
Based on this, by describing the characteristics of Sophia Vyzoviti's 7 techniques, which introduced a fold concept implying the organically linked properties in terms of form or space composition, the shape characteristic of architecture is shown through an analytical study on the architects representing that characteristic, hence,proves the similarity of Sophia Vyzoviti's fold technique through an analytical study of the characteristic of the way each techniques' shape characteristic is shown by fashion designers.
As we looked at earlier, the similarities of architecture and fashion can be extracted to the possibility of change and a switch in composition method, visual continuity, spacial expansion, mobile continuity, tangible combination and mobile curvilinearity, hence, reveals by classifying it as the shape's diversity, curvilinearity, continuity and mobility.
Through the study on ideals, we can see that, in Sophia Vyzoviti's architectural ideology, effects of the 'fold argument' in the reality of architecture is shown to designers of a new era by materializing constructive characteristics and delivering motive of designs through getting hold of the more solid constructive reality in terms of the various directivity that the current fold concept provides. Hence, although each field tries to show an attempt to express formal shape of architecture as fashion becomes more structural and the expression of dynamic beauty in consistence with architecture changing to being more mobile, only fashion's characteristic of using woven fabrics has a flexible characteristic of being able to change, hence, we're able to know the shape development by various textual expressions through diversity of silhouette change, volume and geometric form as an experiment material, and change of structural pattern.
I hope architects of a new era are able to suggest the direction of plastic art through the use of architectural techniques and use the endless possibilities of architectural techniques as innovative motives in developing new designs in modern fashion.
