This study is to elucidate a relation between child's personality resulting from social-demographic variables of family and child's daily stress, a relation between parents' nursing attitude and child's daily stress, a relation between parents' nursing attitude and child's personality, and a relation between child's daily stress and child's personality.
Targeting 3~5 year-old children, this study takes advantage of a few methods. Instrument'(MBRI) made by Schaefer in 1959 are revised and adapted for measuring parents nursing attitude. order to investigate child's personality, criteria of child's personality, which Kang Nan-gi (1988) prepared in 1988 based on items for testing personality of elementary students made by Jung Bum-mo, are revised and adapted in conformity with this study. As a method for measuring child's daily stress, used is 'Korean Preschool Daily Stress Scale' (KPDSS) suitable for Korean children and developed
by Yum Hyun-kyoung in 1998. Gathered data are analyzed with SPSSWIN 15.0. Frequency and percentage analysis, t-test, ANOVA post-hoc analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis are also implemented according to issues of the study.
This study is summarized as follows:
Firstly, a female is relatively affected more than a male by social-demographic variables in all sub areas of a daily stressful situation, to a position of a family, a child of a lower position is affected more by daily stress than a child of a higher position in all sub areas, to age of a child, an older child experiences more daily stress than a younger child.
Secondly, speaking of a relation between parent's nursing attitude and child's personality, parents nursing attitude greatly affects child's personality. Parents' attitude of nursing a child with great affection highly affects child's personality of control, impulse, sociality, prudence, and stability. nursing attitude of giving a child more autonomy highly affects his personality of control, activity, prudence, and sociality. On the other hand, parents' negative nursing attitude shows a negative relation to child's personality of impulse and stability, and a positive relation to a sense of control and activity. As to relation between child's personality and parents' controlling attitude in nursing a child, the more parents control a child, the more the child's activity and impulse are affected. this study, impulse is in negative relation with controlling attitude of nursing.
Thirdly, as to an influence of parents' nursing attitude on a child's daily stress, it is shown that the nursing attitude does not significantly affect a child's daily stress. As to an influence of child's personality on child's daily stress, more cases when a child becomes nervous and frustrated can be seen for a group of children controlled by parents. Sociality has a significant and negative influence on a child's daily stress and a child of less sociality becomes nervous and frustrated more often. sense of controlling also significantly affects the extent of damage of self-esteem. Self-esteem is hurt more seriously for a child having high sense of controlling, whereas prudence positively affects self-esteem.
