The main purpose of this study is to find out the divorce inclination and the marital satisfaction between Korean husband and female marriage immigrants. This study is to know whether the marital satisfaction and other variables have a significant influence on the divorce inclination.
The data for this study came from nationwide representative sample surveys on family and was done with the comparative analysis of female marriage immigrants and Korean husbands.
This study tried to show what factors make influences on marital satisfaction and divorce inclination of the female marriage immigrants and Korean husbands. Also what is important is that, this study compared direct effects that influence on the divorce inclination with indirect effects through a marital satisfaction.
For this purpose, the research used the ordinal logistic regression analysis and the binary logistic regression analysis. In addition, the path model was made based on the logistic regression analysis. The results of this study run as follows.
First, the most important determinants of female marriage immigrant and her husband are household income and the education background of Korean husbands.
Second, the Korean language level of female marriage immigrants was a determinant of marital satisfaction and divorce inclination of female marriage immigrants. What's surprising here is that the higher Korean language level is, the less female marriage immigrants are satisfied with their marital lives. Otherwise, the lower Korean language level is, the more Korean husbands are dissatisfied with their marital lives. It means, adapting to Korean society isn't an extension of adapting to marital life.
Third, in the divorce inclination of female marriage immigrants, the indirect effects through the marital satisfaction had greater effects than direct effects, which means that the emotional factors of female marriage immigrants with Korean husbands seem more important when deciding the divorce inclination of female marriage.
Fourth, in the effects of variables by the age gap of female marriage immigrants and Korean husbands, Korean husbands preferred women who were the same age with him or younger than him to the women who were older than him.
Fifth, in having decision-making power, Korean husbands wanted to decide homemaking with their immigrant spouses or wanted their immigrant spouses to decide homemaking and child-caring by themselves.
Sixth, in the divorce inclination of Korean husbands, it is confirmed that the indirect effects through the marital satisfaction had greater effects than direct effects. The divorce inclination of Korean husbands was determined by external factors instead of emotional interaction through marital satisfaction.
The children, which had significant effects on Korean couples, did not influence on the marital satisfaction and the divorce inclination of female marriage immigrants and Korean husbands.
However, This study did not consider the effect of female marriage immigrants' native places where they are from as a control variable. Therefore it might be a good idea to study more about the marital satisfaction and the divorce inclination with usage of this variable through next study.
