This study conducted a basic study that classifies the adaptative type of adolescents to analyze the life style of resilient adolescents (BASIS-A, personality priorities, psychological birth order) and analyzed the life style of resilient adolescents (BASIS-A, personality priorities, psychological birth order) on the basis of the results of analysis of the basic study.
The issues of study that are supposed by the basic study in relation to this are as follows.
First, how risk factors and protective factors influence the risk behavior of adolescents?
Second, is it possible to classify the adaptative type of adolescents by the two axes of risk factors and protective factors?
The issues of study that are supposed by this study in relation to this are as follows.
First, is there a difference in the life style (BASIS-A, personality priorities, psychological birth order) following the adaptative type of adolescents?
Second, how much can the life style (BASIS-A, personality priorities, psychological birth order) explain the resilience of adolescents?
This study was conducted by being divided into the first preliminary examination and the second examination with high school students in Daegu as the population. The subject of the first examination is 510 students in total including students of two humanity high schools in Daegu and two vocational high schools. For this examination the tool for the examination including the life style scale was corrected and supplemented and reliability and validity were verified. The subject of the second examination is 454 students in total including two humanity high schools in Daegu and two vocational high schools. For this study the correlation analysis, the multiple regression, the structural equation model analysis, the multiple analysis of variance and the logistic regression analysis were conducted. SPSS WIN 12.0 and AMOS 4.0 were used.
The results are summed up as follows.
First, it is a prior question to clarify risk factors and protective factors in order to classify the adolescents with the characteristic of resilience. For this reason the correlation between the subordinate factors of risk factors and protective factors and the risk behavior of adolescents was examined, and as a result the correlation coefficients between the subordinate factors of risk factors and the subordinate factors of the risk behavior of adolescents were all positive. These results can be said to be similar to the results of preceding studies that said that the representative risk factors of adolescents are sensation seeking tendency, psychological and emotional risk factors, negative pressure of peers, risk factors of family and risk factors of school.
Second, as a result of the correlation analysis of protective factors and the risk behavior of adolescents, the correlation coefficients between the subordinate factors of protective factors and the subordinate factors of the risk behavior of adolescents were all negative. These results can be said to be similar to the results of preceding studies that said that the representative protective factors of adolescents that were examined in the theoretical consideration are self-esteem, active measure strategy, peers' support, management and supervision of parents and positive experiences in school.
Third, the stepwise regression was conducted to examine what is the factor that explains the risk behavior of adolescents among risk factors, and as a result, four variables such as peers' negative pressure, risk factors of school, sensation seeking tendency and risk factors of family were statistically significant, and the total explanation variable about the risk behavior was 26.8%. The variables had powerful explanation in the order of peers' negative pressure, risk factors of school, sensation seeking tendency and risk factors of family. However psychological and emotional factors were not included in the regression model.
Fourth, as a result of the examination of which factor explains the risk behavior of adolescents among protective factors, two variables such as management and supervision of parents and positive experiences in school were statistically significant, and the total explanation variable about the risk behavior was 12.1%. The variables had powerful explanation in the order of management and supervision of parents and positive experiences in school. However, self-esteem, peers' support and active measure strategy were not included in the regression model.
Fifth, the mediation effect of protective factors was verified in the relationship between risk factors and protective factors. For this the structural equation model analysis was used. As a result, there was a direct effect of risk factors on the risk behavior of adolescents, but, the partial mediation effect model in which protective factors mediate risk factors and the risk behavior of adolescents had more powerful explanation about the risk behavior of adolescents than the model with only the direct effect. Therefore it is needed to classify groups by using the two axes of protective factors and risk factors in order to classify the adolescents with the characteristic of resilience.
Sixth, as a result of the analysis of the adaptative type of adolescents by crossing the two axes of risk factors and protective factors, the maladaptive group with high risk factors and low protective factors was 35.9% and the largest, and the adaptive group with high protective factors and low risk factors was 31.3% and the vulnerable group with both low risk factors and protective factors was 17.2% and the resilient group with both high risk factors and protective factors was 15.6%.
Seventh, how much life style, personality priorities and psychological birth order that are the main concepts of the Adler school explain and predict resilience was examined. For this the logistic regression analysis was conducted. As the explanation and prediction about the adaptative type following the life style (the vulnerable group, the adaptive group, the maladaptive group, the resilient group), in the case of the vulnerable group, the higher the scores of the variables such as being cautious (BC), belonging/social interest (BSI) and wanting recognition (WR), the higher the possibility that it might be a resilient group rather than a vulnerable group. In the case of the adaptive group, the higher the scores of the variables such as BC and BSI, the higher the possibility that it might be a resilient group rather than an adaptive group. In the case of the maladaptive group, the higher the scores of the variables such as BSI and WR, the higher the possibility that it might be a resilient group rather than a maladaptive group.
Eighth, as the explanation and prediction about the adaptative type following the personality priorities (the vulnerable group, the adaptive group, the maladaptive group, the resilient group), in the case of the vulnerable group, the higher the scores of the variables such as making happy and achieving, the higher the possibility that it might be a resilient group rather than a vulnerable group. In the case of the adaptive group, the higher the score of the variable making happy, the higher the possibility that it might be a resilient group rather than an adaptive group. In the case of the maladaptive group, the higher the scores of the variables such as making happy and achieving, the higher the possibility that it might be a resilient group rather than a maladaptive group. In addition, the higher the score of the variable avoiding, the higher the possibility that it might be a maladaptive group rather than a resilient group.
Ninth, as the explanation and prediction about the adaptative type following the psychological birth order (the vulnerable group, the adaptive group, the maladaptive group, the resilient group), in the case of the vulnerable group, the higher the scores of the first child and the only child, the higher the possibility that it might be a resilient group rather than a vulnerable group. In addition, the higher the score of the variable middle child, the higher the possibility that it might be a vulnerable group rather than a resilient group. In the case of the adaptive group, the higher the scores of the variables such as the first child and the only child, the higher the possibility that it might be a resilient group rather than an adaptive group. In the case of the maladaptive group, the higher the score of the variable the first child, the higher the possibility that it might be a resilient group rather than a maladaptive group. In addition, the higher the score of the variable the middle child, the higher the possibility that it might be a maladaptive group rather than a resilient group.
