The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating effect of early maladaptive schemas in the relation between childhood trauma and early adulthood interpersonal problems using structural equational modeling.
Competing model was formulated and tested in order to examine the interrelationships among the study variables. CTQ-SF, YSQ-SF, KIIP-SF were distributed to 494 early adults(195 males and 299 females) between 20 and 30 years of age.
In analyzing data, this study employed statistical terms and methods such as descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, Cronbach's alpha, confirmatory factor analysis(CFA) and the structural equation model(SEM), SPSS 17.0 and AMOS 7.0 program. In clarifying the significance of mediating effect, the Sobel’s test was used.
The results of structural equation modeling supported the conclusion that the early maladaptive schemas was a partial mediator in the relationship between childhood trauma and early adulthood interpersonal problems. On the basis of the results of the current study, implications for the counseling and suggestions for future study were discussed.
