경북의 아리랑 연구 : 문경·예천·상주·대구·영천의 아리랑을 중심으로 = Research of Gyeongbuk Arirang

In the study, the melody and lyrics of Arirang originated from Gyeongsangbuk-do were analyzed based on the fact that diverse range of Arirang is distributed in especially Gyeongsangbuk-do. Under the hypothesis that Arirang of Gyeongsangbuk-do was originated from Gangwon-do, the features of Gyeongsangbuk-do Arirang were analyzed with the comparison between the melody and lyrics of Gyeongsangbuk-do and of Gangwon-do.
As foresaid, Arirang of Gangwon-do and Gyeongbuk province share many aspects. However, the melody, rhythms and modes have modified as time passes and the location furthers from Gangwon-do. Therefore, Arirang from Mungyeong and Yechon where are close to Gangwon-do has almost same features of Gangwon-do Arirang and Arirang from Yeongchon and Daegu where are further from Gangwon-do has developed its unique features.
Although these aforementioned Arirang have similar melodies and mode, the contents of Arirang are differentiated with the characteristics of Gyeongbuk province as well as dialect and name of each region.
Arirang is distributed among the whole nation, but it does not mean that Arirang exist in one format. Arirang has been developed along with different regions and time periods, and Arirang could be modified by a person who sings that. The similarities for Kangwon-do Arirang and Gyeongsangbuk-do Arirang support the hypothesis that Gyeongbuk province Arirang was originated from Gangwon-do Arirang, but unique features of Gangwon-do Arirang show that Gangwon-do Arirang has went through its own development path with creativity and uniqueness to become new format of Arirang.
I hope the study conducted on musical features and lyrics of Gyeongbuk province Arirang could help to initiate the future study of Gyeongbuk province Arirang, and each regional Arirang could be developed to be loved by people for long time.
