The purpose of this study is to develop the group-play therapy program with application of traditional play, and is to closely examine effects on sociality of young children in multi-cultural families. The research problem is 'will the group-play therapy program with application of traditional play enhance sociality of young children in multi-cultural families?' The following are the hypotheses. First, the experimental group with the group-play therapy of applying traditional play will be enhanced sociality more than control group. Second, the experimental group with the group-play therapy of applying traditional play will be enhanced cooperation, understanding about other person, and interaction among peers, which are sub-factors of sociality, more than control group. This study is divided into the development in the group-play therapy program with application of traditional play, and the application for examining its effects. The research subjects are young children in fully 4~6 years old among children in multi-cultural families.
Through testing sociality, the experimental group was set for young children who use multi-cultural family support center in Namdong-gu, Incheon. The control group was set for children who use multi-cultural welfare center where is located in S city of Gyeonggi Province.
Totally 12 children were selected, respectively, by 6 people. The experimental group was carried out the group-play therapy program in totally 14 sessions, which were formed in the stage of developing program, twice a week by 70 minutes. The control group wasn't therapeutically intervened. To examine effects of group-play therapy with application of traditional play, the pre-post test was carried out by using the measurement tool of children's sociality development. The quantitative analysis was performed by using SPSS Win 12.0. Also, the qualitative analysis was performed by carrying out the repetitively comparative analysis based on materials that recorded and observed the whole sessions of the group-play therapy. The findings are as follows. First, the experimental group with the group-play therapy of applying traditional play was enhanced the sociality score more significantly than control group
Second, the experimental group with the group-play therapy of applying traditional play was enhanced cooperation, understanding about other person, and interaction among peers, which are sub-factors of sociality, more than control group.
These findings suggest that the group-play therapy of applying traditional play has positive effect on enhancing sociality of young children in multi-cultural families. Also, based on the results of this study, there will be necessity for being established the play therapy of utilizing the traditional play hereafter and for being performed a research on diverse therapeutic interventions and programs on young children in multi-cultural families.
