The purpose of this research was to find the effect of normal students’ recognition or acceptance attitudes towards students with disabilities. The target of this research was a middle school located in Yangpyeonggun, Gyeonggido Province. 68 students(34 boys and 34 girls) were randomly chosen among 161 students.
Each class was divided into two groups. One group, called Group A consisted students with disabilities who participated in the class. In this group, students experienced inclusive physical education. The other group, called group B was the controlled group who had no class. No reward was given to Group A. The inclusive physical education was held from March 2010, took 45 minutes a class, and was held three times a week for a total of 30 times. After the experiment, surveys for the students were passed out. For the results of the surveys, SPSS 16.0 was used and it could make the average and standard deviation to the effects on recognition or acceptance attitudes arithmetically and then it analyzed the data through the t-verification.
First, as for the recognition on the students with disabilities of the experiment group and the controlled group through the inclusive physical education, the inclusive physical education could be said to be effective on the recognition changes of the experiment group since the experiment group scored 3.37 and the controlled group scored 2.61.
Second, the recognition on the students with disabilities was composed of 3 different factors; 1)in affective factor, the recognition of the experiment group scored 3.34 and that of controlled group scored 2.71, which had meaningful difference between the recognition of each group. 2)in behavioristic factor, the experiment group got higher score(3.42) than the controlled group did(2.72). 3)in the last one, learning factor, the experiment group's score was higher than that of the controlled group.
Third, as for the experiment group's and controlled group's acceptance attitudes on the students with disabilities through the inclusive physical education, the inclusive physical education could be shown to be effective on the experiment group's change of the acceptance attitude since the experiment group had 3.44 points and the controlled group had 2.23 points.
Fourth, the acceptance attitude of the experiment group and the controlled group had 2 factors; 1) in acceptance attitude of individual life, the experiment group got higher point(3.47) than the controlled group did(2.30). 2) in the acceptance attitude of school life, the experiment group got higher point(the experiment group scored 3.41, and the controlled group scored 2.16).
Consequently, the inclusive physical education could be said to be effective on normal students' change of perception and attitude toward the students with disabilities. However, understanding the students with disabilities, the administrative support for them and cooperation between inclusion class teachers and special education teachers were more essential than unconditional inclusion. What’s most important among them was unless inclusion class teachers change their understanding and attitudes toward the students with disabilities, normal students’ perception and attitude wouldn't change.
