The purpose of the study was to investigate the effects of positive behavior support(PBS) intervention to reduce the problem behavior of a student with mental retardation in general education classroom. The study worked with 1 student with mental retardation in 3 settings, science laboratory, inclusive classroom, special classroom.
The functional behavior assessment through the review of school records, the interviews and behavioral observation led to the hypothesis of problem behaviors in natural context. The positive behavior support of the setting event, antecedent, alternative behavior, and consequence behavior intervention were designed and implemented by general education teacher, special education teacher and parents. Using multiple baseline across settings, the frequency of the student's problem behavior were measured using interval recording.
The results of the study were as follows.
Firstly, the positive behavior support intervention result in a reduction of the problem behavior in 3 setting, science laboratory, inclusive classroom, in special classroom.
Secondly, a reduction of challenging was maintained after 2 weeks in 3 setting, science laboratory, inclusive classroom, in special classroom.
