In this study, I performed the test using ISO 5660 cone calorimeter, ISO 5659 smoke density chamber and NES 713 toxicity chamber. A fire performance for the car interior materials is only burning rate using 38 mm single flame in accordance with FMVSS 302. For the construction interior materials and railway interior materials, several criterions are used for fire performance like heat release, smoke density, toxicity and etc. So I think another criterions are needed also for the car interior materials. For this purpose, I carried out the test mentioned above. All results are compared with fire performance criterions that are used in domestic or foreign. The majority of tested sample were not passed the criterions. Especially, all of the sample were not passed the european railway requirements even the minimum requirement. European standard EN 45545-2 say minimum requirement of MARHE for R1 set is 90 kW/m2. But the test result of all samples were 158 ∼ 290 kW/m2. It shows a big difference. It is possible to pass the specific code by single parameter alone. But several parameters have to be passed together not alone. I also performed the toxicity test. Some of samples showed result that above the critical factor of some gases. The critical factor is a special concentration of toxicity gas that can be died if people breathe in. In this test, samples that passed the FMVSS 302 test were used. I think only one parameter is not suitable for fire performance criterion. Several parameters have to be used for it.
I hope new fire performance criterions have to be made in the near future for the human safety as soon as possible. And also I think this results I performed can be used by basic data for the new fire performance criterions.
