The purpose of this study purpose is that Career Decision Making Training Program will meaningfully improve students' Career Maturity ability, action and attitude. Questions for the hypothesis are, first, will the experimental group students who attend Career Decision Making Training Program meaningfully improve their career maturity ability than the comparative group students who do not attend Career Decision Making Training Program? Second, will the experimental group students meaningfully improve their career maturity action than the comparative group students? Third, will the experimental group students meaningfully improve their career maturity attitude than the comparative group students?
Subjects for the study are sixty six high school students in Kyong-gi Do which are divided into the experimental group(thirty four students) and the comparative group(thirty two students). The experimental group attended twelve times' Career Decision Making Training Program while the comparative group listened to classical music for the same period of time. Career Decision Making Training Program for this study was devised referring to High School Career Decision Making Training Program, Rational Career Decision Making Training Program(Kim, Soyeon, 2004), and Internet-based Career Decision Making Training Program(Seo, Jeonghee, 2007), considering the students' interest and study level. Career Maturity Test(Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education & Training, 2001) is composed of three sub-tests in students' ability, attitude and preparation for career compared to the previous tests which only tested career attitude and ability. Using Career Maturity Test, two groups were tested before and after the experiment. To prove the qualitative similarity of the two groups, independence sample t-test was conducted. To compare the subordinated metameter of the two groups before and after the experiment, paired samples t-test was conducted.
The results of this research are as follows.
First, not significant difference was shown between the groups before and after the experiment in terms of their career maturity ability. Also, there was not significant difference between the groups in the sub-categories of career search, rational decision-making, knowledge for the career, wage and work condition, and the necessary ability and academic background.
Second, experimental group's career maturity ability was meaningfully improved compared to the comparative group. It can be interpreted that students were able to discover their aptitude and interest, become confident by the result of self-understanding, and develop their plan for the career through Career Decision Making Training Program.
Third, experimental group's career maturity attitude was significantly improved compared to the comparative group. It can be interpreted that Career Decision Making Training Program offered the chance to search an appropriate career for the students who was not certain about their careers.
Suggestions based on the results from this experiment for the following study and career counselling on site are as follows.
First, further studies should be conducted for the other grades and vocational school students since this study was conducted only for high school first grade students.
Second, further application of various career education should be conducted. There is need for career performance skill, career ethics, sociological and psychological factors, discovery for the career interest and aptitude through appropriate career programs.
Third, continuous development and application of Career Decision Making Training Program should be conducted and also further studies are needed on this field. There were no significant difference in career maturity ability although meaningful development was made in the career maturity action and attitude. Considering that, it can be interpreted that career maturity ability cannot be achieved during short-term of a couple of months, however, long-term education is needed to improve their career maturity ability.
