This study aims to develop a Somatic Yoga program as an instruction in physical education to produce persons who are whole-person and creative by growing psycho-motor, cognitive and affective domains in a balanced way on the basis of a variety of physical motions in the site of education. And also it comes up with a method to fulfill the educational values of Somatic Yoga as a ‘leisure-practicing educational activity’ and a sound ‘culture activity’ on the curricula and in the site of school education in harmony with what the 8th National Curricula on Physical Education will has pursued in the future. Finally, it focuses its attention on the vision and developmental plan on how the Soma Yoga training can lead its students to experience mental growth and how its educational achievements can be applied in the educational site.
To fulfill this purpose, the study includes (1) Searching for its relationship with physical education to adolescents, (2) Combining theory with practice at the level of somatic education, (3) Developing a Somatic Yoga program and putting it into practice, (4) Finding how to apply the Somatic Yoga program. And this reaches the following conclusion as a research procedure of possibility and limitation.
Firstly, in order to enhance the psycho-motor domain, the yoga class helps its students acquire how to recognize their state of physical health, by experiencing flexibility, tolerance, and balance sense on the basis of yoga motions(the 2nd~11th class). And it helps them know the principle and importance of breathing, which helps learn that there is a combination between body and mind(the4th class); helping acquire how to improve physical health by correcting their false breathing methods.
Secondly, in order to enhance the cognitive domain, the class includes what should be prohibited and what should be recommended (1st~2nd class). It asks its students to recognize what should be noted(2nd class) and helps them have a correct understanding of yoga, and then have correct postures and a stable mind by means of the breathing method(2nd class) and the meditating method as well(4th class).
Thirdly, in order to enhance the affective domain, the class uses yoga motions to grow relationship with others. And it leads students to find out their inherent affirmative energy (8th~11th class). It helped enhance the ability to self-recognize their physical changes by means of breathing method, while doing yoga motions. Thus it makes the students see themselves as such, breaking down their subjective prejudices about themselves and others.
The reason for developing the Somatic Yoga program and educating students about it is that the program enables the students to find out their own growth ability and recognize their inherent potentials, their knowledge, acquired in the course of exploring their body and mind, helping develop the basic self. And thus, students can dismiss the fears of “what will happen and what will change”, thus exposing themselves to new somatic experiences without any care.
