This study started with the interests about related variable that has a close relationship with the academic achievement and is associated with the low level of popularity.
In the precedent study, It was found that the popular students had the high level of academic achievement, and the unpopular students had the low level of academic achievement by the study of M.I Yoon(1995), J.W Yoon(1997), S.H. Han(1984), Y.S S대(1980), K.H. Lee(1972), J.S. Ham(1981), Green, Forhand, Beck, & Vosk (1980), Glick(1972), French and Wass(1985)
It was also found that the students who had the high level of academic achievement had higher level of ego identity and career maturity than the students who had low level of academic achievement by the study of K.S. Lee(1984), Bloom(1981), M.R. Oh(1984), M.R. Cho(1989), Y.R. Park(2002), Y.W. Kim(1991), J.K. Kang(1986), B.S. Lee(1992), S.H. Kim(1985), J.S. Woo(1992), M.J. Hyung.(2002).
This study is based on the precedent study that defined the students ,who had the high level of popularity, had the high level of academic achievement and the students, who had high level of academic achievement, showed high level of ego-identity and career maturity. This study is designed by the implication that the students would have the high level of ego-identity and career maturity according to the level of popularity
This purpose of this study is to comparatively analyze the academic achievement and ego-identity according to the level of popularity. To achieve the goal of this study, Three subjects were largely established.

Second, Is there a ego-identity gap among the popular, unpopular and general students
Lastly, Is there a career maturity gap among the popular, unpopular and general students
Study hypothesis was established by being based on the theoretical background with setting up study subject. and It is compared by sub-factors of ego-identity and career maturity.
Hypotheis 1. The level of academic achievement of popular, unpopular and general students would be resulted in order of popularity.
Hypothesis 2. The level of ego-identity of popular, unpopular and general students would be resulted in order of popularity.
Hypothesis 2-1 The level of sub-factors of ego-identity would be resulted in order of popularity
Hypothesis 3. The level of career maturity of popular, unpopular and general students would be resulted in order of popularity.
Hypothesis 3-1 The level of sub-factors of career maturity would be resulted in order of popularity For the hypothesis test, roughly 150 first grade high school students in Seoul participated in the survey. 150 experimental data about level of academic achievement, ego-identity and career maturity of popular, unpopular and general students could be obtained. Statistical result was produced by using SPSS 17.0. The result of this survey are as below.
First of all, After comparing with popular, unpopular and general student's academic achievement, there was a meaningful difference. so Hypothesis 1 was supported.
Secondly, After comparing with popular, unpopular and general student's ego-identity, there was a meaningful difference between popular and unpopular groups and between popular and general students, but no meaningful difference between unpopular and general student groups. So, Hypothesis 2 was partially supported.
Lastly, After comparing with popular, unpopular and general student's career maturity, there was a meaningful difference among all groups. so, hypothesis 3 was supported.
It is indicated that such results were identical to the precedent study which defined the high level of academic achievement is in accordance with the high level of popularity. and the hypothesis, that implied the level of ego-identity and career maturity would be in accordance with in order of popular, general and unpopular students because the popular students had the high level of academic achievement, was also partially supported.
