The purpose of this study lies in improving linguistic ability and resolving learning disabilities of the children of multi cultural family whose mothers have foreign nationalities through integration of reading and writing areas. In here, 'multi-cultural family' is the family formed through the marriage offoreign woman and Korean man, and the 'children in multi cultural family' who are the children of such couple.
Those children in the multi cultural families apt to be poor in using language and overdue in linguistic development due to their rearing under the mothers who don't speak Korean well. Such linguistic problems affect the children in the forms that they suffer difficulties in adapting themselves to schools & forming peer relationship, and learning disabilities, psychological contraction, and so they can't adapt themselves to society feeling out of place with people.
Those children in multi cultural families suffer difficulties in schools and through whole life, and so they want to study Korean language as the language holding special purpose able to improve their learning ability. They wanted their ability increase in reading and understanding, writing, vocabulary, composition which are included in the reading and writing areas.
Accordingly, this paper constructed reading, writing integrated guidance plan based on the learners' demand and characteristics and then designed the class model to use it.
Chapter 2 is the examination of the status of multi cultural families and the children under such circumstance, and educational state to grasp what they want.
Chapter 3 is the theoretical access to reading and writing area the learners and their parents want. In here, the education of reading and writing integrated was confirmed as useful means to develop linguistic ability, and so basis of reading. writing integrated education was prepared.
Chapter 4 is the design of class model based on theoretical access in chapter 3. As the children in multi cultural families have to study general language and Korean language due to their distinctive home environment, the classes for guiding those children were made out in consideration of the goal of each curriculum. Besides, the reading. writing content system in the 7th Korean curriculum was taken into account together in setting up the goal.
After the goal was set up, a guiding strategy was established by choosing the guidance for balanced reading useful for 'early stages of reading'. Practical guiding model of reading. writing integrated education for the children in the lower grades from multi cultural families was completed together with construction of class model through teaching. learning of the 'before reading- during reading -after reading stages following the reading procedure. <Puppy poo> by Kwan Jung-Sang was applied to setting up of guiding model.
