Under modernized society, information, internationalization, specialization
-oriented, career is complex and important task through one's lifelong process. Especially, career choice and decision during university period-time to understand one's internal factors such as interest and capability and environmental factor to search and embody suitable path and enter to career- is important developmental task to achieve for stable adulthood development.
However, modern society is changing too fast and complex to decide career personally and it is hard to estimate its prospect and life span. Therefore, career pathway and career choice for a modern person is very complex and tough problem which require accurate understanding ot oneself, work world and changing work environment for reasonable decision making. To solve those tough developmental problems and to be adopted, high-qualitied relationship with others such as parents, teachers and colleagues is very important.
Especially, family environment include parents influence offspring's personal overall adaptation like psychological health, career pathway and career choice as well as its personality formation. Despite of family member's important role of one's career development, studies on career counselling were focused at one's psychological variables and relation of career choice and decision up to now.
The aim of this study is to use intial database for career counseling. Initial database will be obtained from research of relation between social support of the family in many quarters and university students' career identity and career belief.
This study conducted a questionnaire survey of 361 university students in Gyeonggi and Chungcheong district. And 336 sample were used in research analysis, exclude inappropriate answers and unanswered cases. SPSSWIN 12.0 program was used to verify a hypothesis through frequency, validity, independent sample t-test, one-way ANOVA, correlation analysis. The result are follows.
First, analyzed result of career identity differences by university students's personal character verified reject of sex factor and some differences in school year and major. In school year case, higher education shows more goal oriented, and in major division, law, business-economy and arts-physical education students have more career stability than other students.
Second, career belief by university students' personal character shows no difference while sex and school year show some differences. In sex case, male indicated more belief and flexibility as professional skill development than female, meanwhile in school year case shows that career flexibility goes up as school year passing.
Third, career identity and university students' social support of family shows significant positive correlation. Higher correlation factor with career identity among sub factor of social support of family were informational support and evaluative support. And higher correlation factor with social support of family among sub factor of career identity was self-understanding.
Fourth, career belief and university students' social support of family indicated significant positive correlation in overall. Higher correlation factor with career belief among sub factor of social support of family were informational support and evaluative support. And higher correlation factor with social support of family among sub factor of career belief was professional skill development.
Fifth, university students' career belief and career identity shows significant positive correlation and higher correlation factor with career identity among sub factor of career belief were career plan clarity and independent self-reliance.
Through those result, the facts that university students' social support of family has correlation with career identity and career belief and it is a key factor which influence on one's career development have been confirmed. Therefore positive verbal and behavioral offer, such as encouragement, recognition and support to university students who face important time in career development procedure will help their career development.
