The purpose of this study is to verify theoretical characteristics of youth activities program by analyzing youth activity in paths of experience learning models.
The 383 surveys have been collected from October 7 2009 to November 13 2009. Among them, 23 incomplete surveys have been disregarded for the final analysis. The subject of this research includes middle school and high school students who participate in the training activities program at National Youth Center of Korea.
The followings summarize the result of this study.
First, the content of the youth activities program's experience learning is analyzed by gender, grade, and experience in the activity. There are statistically significant differences in Concrete Experience and Active Experiments by gender. Female students show high scores in those experiments. There are no statistically significant differences by grade. On the other hand, experience in the activity shows statistically significant differences. The youth who has experience in the activity shows high scores in those experiments.
Second, the analysis of correlation between each stages in experiential learning points out that stages have been influential to each other. The correlation coefficients of Reflective Observation, Abstract Conceptualization, Active Experiment with Concrete Experiment are .819, .828, .884 respectively. Thus, the correlation coefficients show that these variables are positively correlated to each other. The correlation coefficients of Abstract Conceptualization, Active Experiment with Reflective Observation are .881 and .797 respectively, so they have positive correlations too. Abstract Conceptualization has positively correlation with Active Experiment, since the correlation efficient between them is .785.
Third, in order to understand youth activities program in experience learning, the path analysis is conducted through four models. The fourth model proves that there is significance in the cause and effect relationships between each variable: Concrete Experience → Active Experiment → Reflective Observation → Abstract Conceptualization → Concrete Experience. It is also suggested as the most appropriate model.
In conclusion, based upon theoretical background of youth activities program, this study finds out that there are differences by gender, grade, and experience in activities. In addition, stages of experience learning in youth activities program are greatly influential to each other. This points out that the learning process, which is described by experiential learning theory, have inherent relationships in youth activities program. This study discovers what stages the process of experience learning have, and it suggests the learning process of training activities for youth.
