한국어 비원어민 화자 간에 나타난 말 끼어들기 양상 연구 = Research on interruption in conversation among non-native Korean speakers

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 한국어 비원어민 화자 간의 대화를 통해 나타난 말 끼어들기의 어떠한 양상을 보이는지 밝히고자 하였다. 이를 위해 한국어 비원어민 화자 간 대화 자료를 수집 및 분석하여 말 끼어들기 현상이 대화의 상호작용 속에서 미치는 영향 및 결과를 살펴보고자 하였다. 이러한 결과를 토대로 하여 말 끼어들기가 갖는 교육적 함의를 모색해보고 한국어 교육에의 적용 방안을 제시하고자 하였다.
1장에서는 먼저 말 끼어들기가 갖는 연구의 필요성과 목적에 대해서 기술하였고 국내와 국외로 나누어 말 끼어들기에 관한 선행 연구가 어떻게 이루어졌는지 검토해 보았다. 또한 이들 주요 연구들이 가지고 있는 의의와 한계점에 대해 살펴보았다. 2장에서는 말 끼어들기 양상을 분석하기 위해 이론적인 틀로 대화분석의 개념과 대화규칙의 유형을 제시하였다. 또한 말차례 규칙과 관련하여 말 끼어들기 및 추이적정지점에 대해서 언급하였다. 3장에서는 한국어 비원어민 화자 간 대화 자료 수집을 위해 연구 절차, 연구 대상, 자료 수집 방법을 정하고 이를 기준으로 하여 예비 조사와 본 조사를 실시하였다. 또한 각각의 조사를 통해 수집된 자료의 분석 및 전사 방법에 대해서도 기술하고자 하였다. 4장은 말 끼어들기 유형을 토대로 한국어 비원어민 화자 간에 나타난 말 끼어들기 양상을 분석하였다. 이것은 크게 말 끼어들기를 방법 및 기능의 관점에서 다양한 유형을 제시하였고 유학생과 여성 결혼이민자 그룹 간에 어떠한 차이점이 있는지에 대해서도 살펴보았다. 또한 적절한 추이적정지점을 예측하기 위한 방안으로 먼저 통사적 단위의 관점에서 말 끼어들기 현상이 일어나는 지점을 밝혀보고자 하였다. 앞서 4장의 분석 내용을 토대로 하여 5장에서는 한국어 교육에의 적용 방안을 모색해 보았다. 이를 위한 방안으로 한국어 교재에 듣기 지문 활용과 말하기 과제 활동을 제시함으로써 한국어 비원어민 화자 간 자연스러운 상호작용이 일어나도록 유도하였다.
본 연구에서는 한국어 비원어민 화자들이 실제 한국인들의 발화처럼 자연스러운 의사소통을 하고자 하였으며 발화할 때 일정한 차례를 지키기 보다는 다양한 방법으로 상대방이 발화하는 중에 말 끼어들기를 하는 것을 알 수 있었다. 비원어민 화자간의 말 끼어들기는 대화의 내용을 확인하거나 수정 및 보충하기 위해 말 끼어들기를 하기도 하고 대화를 적극적으로 진행하기 위해서 말 끼어들기를 시도하기도 하였다. 그러나 대부분은 상대방의 말에 대해 긍정적인 반응이거나 호응하는 말 끼어들기를 통해 원활한 대화가 이어지도록 하는 긍정적인 역할을 하고 있다는 것을 발견할 수 있었다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This research tries to show different aspects of “interruption” during dialogues through gathering and analyzing records of the conversations between non-native Korean speakers and studying how the interruptions affect the interactivity. The objective was to propose measures to implement the subtle lessons learned from the experiment to Korean education as a foreign language.
Chapter one discusses the need and the purpose of this experiment and reviews previous domestic and international cases of such experiment as well as studying their significance and limitations. Chapter two suggests a theoretical framework under which, dialogue rules and analysis methods are set in order to better understand the facets of the cutting-in. In addition, the optimal point of engagement in relation with the lingual patterns is mentioned. Chapter three explains the test procedure, data collection methods and how the candidates are selected followed by the preliminary and the main test. The method of analysis for the overall, combined data is discussed as well. Chapter four examines the process under an existing framework that was presented by Im, Gyu Hong (2001). The procedure provides various characteristics of “cutting in” by taking a separate approach for its method of use from its functional use and also investigates the difference in results between international students and immigrant wives. Furthermore, the routine occurrences of “cutting in” are scrutinized in order to predict the optimal point of engagement. Based on the results from chapter four, chapter five explores implementing these ideas for Korean education using listening and verbal exercises that can induce natural interactions between foreign Korean speakers.
This research found that the foreigners tried to speak Korean like the natives and they cut in during dialogues in various ways rather than waited for their turn to talk. Sometimes one interrupted the other to correct mistakes and at other times, to lead the conversation. But it was apparent that the interruptions took place to serve a positive cooperation via friendly responses and encouraging remarks.
