Management Innovation Technique(MIT) causes the usage of various performance indices consistent with their introduction purposes, triggers behavioral changes of organization members via implementation methods of performance management system, and ultimately gives influence on business performance. Accordingly this study grasps introduction and actual condition of MIT for the purpose of actively responding business environmental changes together with attributes of the performance management systems(PMS) and also analyzes comprehensively interactive influence of MIT and PMS on business performance.
Analysis results and suggestions of the study are as follows.
First, firms mainly introduce MIT for the purpose of improving performance, benchmark from competitors, and request of related firms including central companies. Overall importance priority of MIT turns out to be TC(target costing), ERP(enterprise resource planning), TQM(total quality management) in order.
Second, the usage level of financial performance indices decrease by increasing utilization of MIT. On the other hand, usage level, variety, and importance of non financial performance indices increase. Also utilization of MIT causes increasing strategic links, compensational links, and communicative acceleration of performance indices. Furthermore relative usage level of non financial indices in comparison of financial indices are also increased.
Third, high level of MIT utilization increases business performance in accordance with preceding literatures.
Fourth, Usage level, variety, and importance of non financial performance indices increase business performance but the usage of financial performance indices decreases business performance. Attributes of performance index efficiency such as strategic links, compensational links, and communicative acceleration turn out to be factors of increasing performance. Therefore, firms of using MIT generally need to enforce the efficiency of PMS and attributes of non financial indices in order for increasing business performance.
Fifth, attributes of both financial and non financial index of PMS and attributes of system efficiency except strategic and compensational links show moderating effects in relationship between MIT utilization and business performance. All attributes of the system show also mediating effects in the above relationship. Moderating effects of the system attributes reveal that firms of MIT utilization can increase business performance more by using various performance indices as aggressive control means. Mediating effects give additional positive impact on the performance by strategic usage of system attributes in the control process. Therefore moderating and mediating effects of system attributes should be interpreted that the role of PMS together with index structure, efficiency, and strategic usage of the system need to be emphasized for improvement of business performance.
Overall results of this study expand possibility of research areas of business performance in terms of MIT and strategic PMS and also suggest that increasing MIT efficiency and considering strategic establishment and implementation of PMS are critical for improving ultimate performance. Based on these results, future research for related area and business practice is activated and competitiveness of domestic small and medium size companies is well enforced by receiving substantial support from research.
