    The present research study looks into the effects of educational activities using Pattern Intelligence Strategy on creativity and mathematical ability of young children. The purpose is to confirm the utility of Pattern Intelligence Strategy as an educational strategy that enhances the creativity and mathematical ability of young children and provide a practical suggestion to the field of early child education.
    To achieve the research purpose, the following research problems are set. First, what is the effect of teaching activities using Pattern Intelligence Strategy on creativity (fluency, flexibility, originality, imagination)?
    Second, what is the effect of teaching activities using Pattern Intelligence Strategy on mathematical ability (algebra, number and operation, geometry, measurement)?
    To verify the research problems, the experiment was done for 50 children (25 for each) from two private kindergartens located at K city in Kangwon-do for 8 weeks, 4 times a week, for 32 times all in all. The themes for life and activity were the same for both experimental and control groups during the experimental period, and the Pattern Intelligence Strategy was used for the experimental group. To see the effect of experimental treatment, the creativity and mathematical ability were measured by the?Test of synthetic creativity of children?developed by Cheon, Kyoung-won(2000) and the?Picture test of mathematical ability of children?developed by Choi, Hye-jin(2007).
    The result after probing the difference between the creativity and mathematical ability of children according to the use of Pattern Intelligence Strategy is as following.
    First, the educational activity using Pattern Intelligence Strategy appears to improve the creativity of children. There was a significant difference especially in the score of fluency, flexibility, and originality. Insight was gained through the process of finding the rules that the activity had. And that the children changed in a variety of ways and created and introduced their work in front of classmates and shared each other's thoughts were the factors that made them enhance their creativity.
    Second, the educational activity using Pattern Intelligence Strategy made no significant result in the improvement of mathematical ability. Though the activity that used some parts of the rules of the mathematics education did not reach the statistical effect, when the increase of the two groups' pre and post tests were compared, the experimental group had a bigger increasing width in all areas of mathematics than the control group. According to the increasing width of the mathematical ability, it is assumed that a longer experiment than the present study will have effect on the improvement of the mathematical ability.
