This thesis strives to investigate into Merleau-Ponty's critical philosophical issues of the phenomenology of body and by basing this analysis, it attempts to examine our ways of subjectivity by understanding his meaning and experience of the other. His philosophy instigates with introspection of the traditional philosophy. As a counterproposal, he selected Husserl's phenomenological method and unfolded and pursued towards a primordial openness to the 'Lebenswelt'.
The main characteristic of Merleau-Ponty's philosophy is to understand the world through the perception of body. To Merleau-Ponty, Husserl missed out of the concept of perception. Therefore, Merleau-Ponty pursued a transcendental philosophy which is rather different to Husserl's. In addition, Merleau-Ponty restored the world of experience through the perception and he defined human beings as ‘being-to the-World’(?tre au monde) who project their bodies through involvement in the world.
‘being-to the-World’(?tre au monde) represents the roots within the world and their consciousness, bodies and the world are tangled up as a knot. Thus, the main issue is to find out the method of how we communicate with the world and Merleau-Ponty explains the dual characteristics of perception and the primacy of perception through the investigation of phenomenology of body.
Therefore, the main exploration is to reveal the plain reality of human life primordially beyond their ideologies, senses and scientific theories. According to Merleau-Ponty's philosophical theory, the existence of the other denotes inter-subjectivity through body-subject. To Merleau-Ponty's theory, our bodies refer to as a place where incarnate subjectivity incurs through our perception and it was a precondition for cognition of the other and for an act of existence.
