일기예보를 위한 날씨 아이콘 디자인에 관한 연구

현대사회는 ‘정보화 사회’라고 할 수 있다. 산업혁명 이후 급속히 발달한 과학 기술의 진보는 우리가 상상으로만 여겼던 모든 것들을 시각적 현실로 보여주고 있으며 다양한 매개체를 통하여 수많은 지식과 정보들이 전달되고 있다.
날씨는 수많은 정보 중에서 인간의 일상생활에 있어 꼭 알아야 하는 정보중의 하나이며 나아가 사회나 경제, 문화에도 영향을 미치는 중요한 정보이다. 또한 컴퓨터의 정보처리 능력이 향상됨에 따라 인간이 인지하는 방법인 감각적인(주로 시각적인) 표현을 통해 상호작용하는 아이콘의 형태로 수용자들이 보다 쉽고 빠르게 정보를 이해하고 구현할 수 있도록 하는 사용 환경을 제공하고 있다. 특히 현대인들에게 일기예보는 내일의 준비와 오늘의 생활에 있어 중요한 정보로 어떠한 형태로든 짧은 시간 안에 정확한 날씨정보를 필요로 하고 있다. 우리나라의 일기예보는 기상청의 정보를 기준으로 각 매체들이 동일하게 정보를 공유하지만 날씨를 전달하는 그래픽 요소는 각각의 개성과 특성을 살려 다양한 디자인으로 제공하고 있다. 한눈에 날씨를 전달해야하는 일기예보에 있어 날씨아이콘은 시각적으로 정보를 전달하는 중요한 요소이다.
최근에 이르러서는 한반도의 기후변화와 함께 일기예보에 대한 중요성이 인식되고 있으며 좀 더 다양한 날씨정보를 요구하게 되었다. 즉 이전에 보이지 않았던 황사라든지 오존 등 기후변화로 오게 되는 날씨에 대한 시각적 정보전달이 새롭게 요구되고 있다. 따라서 일기예보에 있어 수용자들의 이해도를 높이기 위하여 효과적인 정보전달 표현방법인 날씨아이콘의 개발과 그 기준이 필요하다.
본 연구의 목적은 날씨아이콘이 의사전달을 위한 하나의 시각기호로 인식하여 기호학적 분석과 표현형태별 유형분석을 통해 날씨아이콘의 개발 기준을 마련하고 기후에 따른 다양한 날씨정보를 전달할 수 있는 아이콘을 개발하는데 있다.
연구결과 날씨아이콘은 문화적다양성과 조형성은 다양하게 연구 개발되어지는 것이 바람직하다. 그러나 언어적, 문화적 배경을 뛰어 넘어 누구나 날씨 정보를 쉽고 빠르게 인지 할 수 있는 날씨아이콘의 적확한 기준이 정립되고 국제적으로도 통용될 수 있는 날씨아이콘이 필요하다.
의미 전달이 가장 잘 이루어지는 날씨아이콘의 형태는 사실적인 대상을 중심으로 디자인 하는 직관적 아이콘이다. 직관적이고 사실적인 표현은 정보전달에 있어서 중요한 전달요소가 된다. 따라서 요즘 날씨아이콘의 형태는 컴퓨터 사용환경의 발달도 있겠지만 사실에 가까운 형태를 중심으로 디자인되어지는 경향은 가속화 될 것이다.
날씨아이콘의 구성은 기상현상의 대상체를 형상화한 도상으로 제작하여 지리적 문화적 인식의 차와 인식의 속도를 최소화 할 수 있는 형태로 제작하여 아이콘간의 연관성을 높여 매체의 확장 및 조합시켜 거부감을 최소화하여 간결하면서도 빠른 날씨정보전달이 이루어져야한다. 현재 세계기상기구의 표준이 제시되어 있으나 앞선 기상문화를 소유한 우리나라의 저력으로 볼 때 날씨 정보 전달의 디자인 분야에 있어서도 좀 더 체계적이고 다양한 연구개발을 통하여 유비쿼터스 시대의 날씨정보의 세계적인 기준으로 자리 잡게 함으로써 한발 앞서나간다면 그 의의가 크다고 하겠다.
