This study, as a basic research to prepare improvement measure for current Korean CBT Speaking assessment, aims to complement the weakness of existing CBT by applying interaction the biggest advantage of interview test.
Although speaking assessment is introduced to language ability test following the argument that learner's language ability shall be directly assessed, the majority of assessments is done by using computer due to practical issues such as cost and lack of experts in assessment. This study, therefore, examined utterance aspects of testees of CBT and interview test in order to find improvement measure for the weak points of one-way system that current CBT System has.
This study is significant firstly because it compared CBT and interview test with actual data of testees which previous studies had done by analyzing questionnaire; secondly, it could examine the strong and weak points of CBT and interview test very in detail by comparing actual testees' data; thirdly, it tried to find improvement measure by applying interaction of interview test to the existing CBT Model. However, it is the limit of this study that it was unable to develop the CBT System suggested in this study due to the cost and other practical matters. In addition, this study was unable to take broader view on the improvement measure of Korean CBT Speaking assessment due to lack of data in volume as well as researcher's expert knowledge. This study, however, is meaningful that it is the first attempt to overcome the weak points of CBT with interaction of interview test based on the data of actual testees, and it is hopefully desired that this study can be used as basic data upon developing Korean CBT Speaking assessment pattern along with the progression of future studies connected with automatic scoring system by securing more advanced computer technology.
