    본 연구의 목적은 한국프로 골프 선수들의 클럽선택에 대한 실태를 파악한 후에 현재 클럽 피팅을 하고 있는 방법의 많은 문제점들을 고려하여 프로선수들에게 샤프트와 헤드의 선택에 있어서 최선의 피팅 방법을 제시하고자 설문조사와 로봇머신을 이용한 샤프트와 헤드의 실험비교를 하였으며, 본 연구에서 얻은 결과를 요약하여 제시하면 다음과 같다.

    1. 골프경기력에 많은 영향을 미치는 클럽선택에 대하여 조사한 결과 174명중 67.8%인 118명이 본인느낌으로 클럽을 선택하는 것으로 나타났으며 이렇게 선택한 클럽의 만족도는 49.4%로 대상자의 50%이상이 자신의 클럽에 만족하지 못하는 것으로 나타났다. 클럽 피팅의 중요성에 대하여 조사한 결과 90%이상의 선수들이 피팅은 꼭 필요하다고 인식하고 있는 것으로 나타났으며 향후 피팅 시장의 확대를 예측할 수 있으며 현재 피팅 방법의 문제점 해결과 피팅 전문가의 양성, 피팅 이론의 정립 등이 중요한 현안으로 나타났다.

    2. 10가지 샤프트 종류를 로봇머신을 이용하여 일정한 헤드스피드로 놓고 동일한 헤드로 분석한 결과 백스핀, 티-레이트, 발사각에서 샤프트 별로 차이가 나타났으며 이를 상위그룹, 하위그룹으로 구분하여 통계분석을 실시한 결과 그룹간에 백스핀, 티-레이트, 발사각에서 두 그룹 간에 유의한 차이를 나타났다(p<.05). 본 연구결과 샤프트의 선택이 클럽 피팅 및 경기력에 많은 영향을 미치는 중요한 요인이라는 것을 나타냈다.

    3. 6가지 헤드 종류를 로봇머신을 이용하여 일정한 헤드스피드로 놓고 동일한 샤프트로 분석한 결과 백스핀, 티-레이트, 발사각 에서 헤드 별로 차이가 나타났으며 이를 상위그룹, 하위그룹으로 구분하여 통계분석을 실시한 결과 그룹 간에 백스핀, 티-레이트에서 두 그룹 간에 유의한 차이를 나타났다(p<.05). 본 연구결과 헤드의 선택이 백스핀, 티-레이트에 많은 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며 클럽 피팅 및 경기력에 많은 영향을 미치는 중요한 요인이라는 것을 나타냈다.

    본 연구의 목적은 한국프로 골프 선수들의 클럽선택에 대한 실태를 파악한 후에 현재 클럽 피팅을 하고 있는 방법의 많은 문제점들을 고려하여 프로선수들에게 샤프트와 헤드의 선택에 있어서 최선의 피팅 방법을 제시하고자 설문조사와 로봇머신을 이용한 샤프트와 헤드의 실험비교를 하였으며, 본 연구에서 얻은 결과를 요약하여 제시하면 다음과 같다.

    Unconfirmed report stated first six holes golf course was built in 1888 along the coast of Wonsancity for the British custom officials when Wonsan port was opened in 1880’s. Although, it is more dominant that first built golf course in Korea was located at Hyochang, Seoul, where Hyochang stadium is currently resided. Thereafter, golf was the luxury sports for the vested groups of wealthy people. However, when the Se Ri Pak won the four U.S. LPGA tournaments including the two majors ignite popularization of golf and aided by progressive President Dae Jung Kim’s announcement of golf as a public sports in 1999. Along the announcement, fast industrial and economy growth, and increase in income triggered people’s interest in golf as a popular sports and Korean golf industry experienced rapid growth.

    In April year 2008, KPGA and Kyung hee University conducted joint survey total of 4,730 people including all genders age of over twenty indicated 9.6% or 454 people answered they are currently playing golf. If we plug into total population of age over twenty which is 28,700,712 then 2,754,783 people are playing golf. Also, people who answered that they are currently not playing golf but will start playing when opportunity comes, answered "yes" was 38.8% which is 10,067020 people. Above survey is the clear indications of golf become popular sports, not a luxury sports owned by affluent society.

    According to Korea Golf Course Association’s report in 2009, Total number of golf courses in Korea for the 2008 was 310courses, 23,982 annual player equivalent to every one out two Korean population visited golf course in 2008 and this report provide relatively important indication for the size of Korean golf industry.

    Korean golf and golf industry made significant improvement and hope for many people by Se Ri Pak during the serious economic crisis of IMF aid and K.J. Choi’s victory in U.S. PGA Tour. By K.J. Choi and Se Ri Pak, increase young golfer’s population and Korean golfers become more mature and made significant improvements of the game and people’s interest.

    The purpose of this study is to analyze the current golf club selection by Korean golf professionals and review any discrepancy may present for better fitting. During the course of study, it includes research survey, golf shaft and club head analysis utilizing swing robot for test comparison and concludes the summary of this study as follows;


    1. 67.8% or 118 people of 174 golfers I surveyed for what influences the golf club selection that significantly influence golf game, answered golf club’s feel is a major club determination factor. Among those golfers, 49.4% satisfied with their club and over 50% of golfers were dissatisfied with their choice. During the survey, over 90% of golfers realize the importanceof custom club fitting and this is a key indication of future demand for the custom club market. It also appeared some concerns regarding current custom club fitting methods and it requires more qualified custom club fitters along with more accurate club fitting methods.

    2. For the test, one controlled club head and ten different graphite shafts were used at constant club head speed. To accomplish constant club head speed, golf swing robot was used. During the testing, golf ball’s spin rate, ball speed to club head speed ratio, and vertical launch angle were measured and noticeable difference was apparent in all fields from the two different groups after the statistic analysis evaluation (p<.05). This study concludes shaft selection takes the major role and significantly influences optimization of club fitting and its game.

    3. This study also conducted with six different club heads and one controlled shaft with was used. In order to measure constant club head speed, golf swing robot was implemented. During the testing, golf ball’s spin rate, ball speed to club head speed ratio, and vertical launch angle were measured and noticeable difference of golf ball spin rate and ball speed to club head speed ratio was apparent from the two different groups after the statistic analysis evaluation (p<.05). After the testing, club head is the important part of the component to influence club fitting and the game.

    After the survey conducted for the Korean professional golfers’ club selection, most of golfers’ lack of club fitting knowledge lead to improper club selection resulting dissatisfaction occurred. They also lack of knowledge regarding golf club’s specifications and information. Accordingly, most golfers are under educated on club fitting that also closely related with scores.

    This study also suggest better club fitting for golf professionals provided by identifying current problems. For the accurate testing, I utilized swing robot for repeatable and consistent data of shaft and club head analysis under the controlled environment. Under the uniform environment, there are slight variations of golf ball’s back spin, ball speed to club head speed ratio, and vertical launch angle occurred.

    For the future, vast majority of golf professionals can make better judgment to choose proper golf club head and shaft based on this analogy and eventually improves their game by lowering the scores. I like to expect this study may trigger more people to get interest on golf club fitting and exploring its research.
