The purpose of this study is to seek a method for arousing self-efficacy and raising major satisfaction of college students majoring in beauty and to provide basic material for career guidance by understanding their various values, grasping levels of self-efficacy & major satisfaction and career maturity and analyzing these relationships.
The questionnaire for this study was distributed to 600 college students attending the beauty-related department of colleges located in the Busan·Gyeongnam and the Daegu·Gyeongbuk regions from December 1 to December 20, 2008, so its 588 copies were used for its final analysis.
The Frequency analysis, Factor analysis, Reliability analysis, Correlation analysis, Analysis of variance(ANOVA), Duncan-test, Aluster analysis, Multiple regression analysis and Cross-tab(塔) analysis were carried out by using SPSS Win 14.0K.
The results of this study were as follows :
First, the college students majoring in beauty more value a relationship with others rather than achievement of a goal, and their self-efficacy, major satisfaction and career maturity appeared highly in a group with social values regarding emotion as important.
Therefore, the colleges shouldn't spare its interest and consideration in order to respect emotion of an individual student, stir up self-efficacy through a schoolmate relationship or a friendly relationship with professors, improve satisfaction on their major and have a more mature attitude.
Second, it appeared that the higher the self-efficacy of the college students majoring in beauty is, the higher their major satisfaction and career maturity are, and especially, it could be understood that the confidence factor among them is an important variable enhancing the self-efficacy.
Accordingly, the colleges should select a content suitable to a level of students rather than a complex and difficult content and make them feel achievements in class in order that students have interest and attend their major lessons.
In addition, the colleges should develop and operate programs such as club activities, voluntary activities or on-site practice, etc. in order to implant confidence in students through repetitive practice, and when the colleges search and apply a method for enhancing self-efficacy due to it, the career maturity of students could become much more improved.
Third, it was analyzed that as the major satisfaction of the students majoring in beauty is higher, their career maturity is higher. Among them, it appeared that as their recognition satisfaction is especially higher, the career maturity is higher.
Namely, it could be understood that as it could be understood that as students think the background that graduated from the department while feeling to learn something valuable in their major department act advantageously in the social life, their career maturity is higher.
Accordingly, the Beauty Department should secure its competitiveness and make students have their pride on the Department by organizing a curriculum suitable for fostering beauty experts, equipping with an educational environment of latest equipment and employing capable teachers having affluent knowledge on the major and on-site experience.
This study limited its survey recipients to Busan·Gyeongnam and Daegu·Gyeongbuk regions, so there is unreasonableness in generalizing the result. The research targeting college students majoring in beauty in all over the country should be carried out in the subsequent research.
It could be understood that the values, self-efficacy are variables affecting the major satisfaction and career maturity through this study. Especially, It could be understood that the self-efficacy is an important variable much affecting major satisfaction and career maturity to college students
Accordingly, the continuous research should progress to achieve more realistic career advice by developing a program inspiring self-efficacy of college students majoring in beauty next to this study and comparing & analyzing self-efficacy before and after program application.
It is expected that this study would be utilized for seeking a method enhancing self-efficacy and major satisfaction of college students majoring in beauty as well as basic material for employment and career counselling.
