The objective of history education can be defined as historical fact of the past, broadening understanding about figures and phenomena as well as gathering historical resources and training historical thinking ability through analysis. With the help of ‘Doing History’, which enables to experienresworking procedure of historians, learners can develop historical thinking ability. In this regto , such project learning method ‘Doing History’ by learner-centered research is highly effective teaching-learning method sucachieving goals of ‘historical thinking ability expansion’. Nevertheless, theresweresa lot of difficulti , suchistory schooling oolin when conductiNeverthele for ‘Doing History’. Due to designated class hour, succurriculum, project learning activity requires considerable timesand to sworks and sucaddition to that, some teachers did noe fully understand sucwhatcways to ctory on research activity of ‘Doing History’. In this way of thinking, the introduction of Blended Learning made ‘Doing History’-a project learning activity-to improve historical thinking possible in history education field.
This research aims the goal of discussing and verifying the potentialities in ‘Doing History Together’ project in junior high history education by developing blended learning based project teaching and learning methods, applying them to actual school.
Research was conducted as follows. First developed teaching learning method adopted blended learning to ‘Doing History Together’project and then applied this to history education field. Project activities were practiced by utilizing teaching and learning community through internet community Edunet for both teachers and students to participate in blended learning ‘Doing History Together’ and this lasted for five weeks. As for the result of the project activity, the efficiency of ‘Doing History Together’, brought by blended learning based project, was proved by reviewing texts and self-check notes written by learners.
Research results are as follows. First, the core element of blended learning based project for ‘Doing History Together’ was drawn from analysis of prior case study and related references. Those are self-led studying of learners, guidance of teachers and dynamic interaction through teaching and learning community. Blended learning based teaching and learning community enabled ‘Doing History Together’ via mutual interaction between learner-learner, learner-historical resource and learner-teacher.
Second, based on key elements drawn for ‘Doing History Together’, blended learning based project teaching and learning methods which can be put through within curriculum were planned and applied to actual school hours.
Major project activity until conclusion was implemented through online teaching and learning community and the practical usage of the outcome made ‘Doing History Together’ feasible within regular curriculum along with the introduction of blended learning conducted in actual class.
Third, by analyzing texts and self-check notes written by learners after practicing blended learning based project teaching and learning methods, the potentiality and effectiveness of ‘Doing History Together’were certified. As a consequence, blended learning appeared to provide effective learning surroundings for learners to experience historians’ works through project learning activities.
Blended learning endows learners with diverse historical facts and viewpoint of analysis and learners were able to ‘do history’in the course of analyzing and recomposing. Furthermore, by making use of texts formed by learners, ‘Doing History Together’ was accomplished.
As stated above, this research is expected to provide practical guidance to ‘Doing History Together’ teaching and learning project within possible history education curriculum.
With the introduction of blended learning, case study from actual education environment about project teaching and learning activity is under active progress. The number of case study about research targeting junior high school was relatively lower than those intending elementary school or university since there were much demand and limited class hours.
Due to blended learning, overcoming difficulties in school education environment regarding time and space restriction. Nonetheless case study dealing with the actual school education environment is still in short in its numbers. Especially blended learning provide learning circumstances to improve historical thinking ability.
This research proves to be very significant in having pointing out specific teaching and learning methods of history project learning based on blended learning. Yet further related studies about deciding topics of project learning concerning learners' interest and level, setting objective evaluation level and more are needed. More active interaction and discussion between history teachers and text professionals have to be vitalized in order to improve history source books for learners to participate in project activity.
